How many chickies hatched??? Any whites???This has been my favorite swap month so far! I have had successful hatches from each of my swap partners' eggs (with 1 to go).
Breshcandra - 7/12 BBS Silkies
Madamwlf - 2/9 Cream Legbars (7 made it to lockdown, 2 are out and the rest are pipping and peeping right now!)
beauty2thebirds - 5/8 Light Brown Leghorns
lotsapaints - beautiful dark Marans and OE eggs are in the bator now and looking good - from what I can tell
Thank you all so much! I am always amazed if i can get a third of my shipped eggs to hatch, much less 50% and above. They were all packaged extremely well.
it would take a serious increase (50% or more) of over voltage (surge) over a long period of time to cause your incubator to get that hot that fast, and the rest of the electronics (and wiring likely) in your house would also be fried. a momentary surge when power comes back isn't enough to cause that kind of heat that fast... it sounds like your thermostat was simply stuck. No more babies. My heart broke into pieces when I got back home yesterday. Our power had gone out due to the heat/power load (108 degrees). There must have been a big surge when it came back on. The temps in the hatcher showed 117 and since it was going down, I am assuming it had went even higher at some point. Along with killing my 15 babies that were still trying to hatch, it fried my Brinsea Spot-check thermometer. I couldn't help but start bawling at seeing all those lost babies.
I am just really, really thankful I had decided to move the newly hatched babies to a brooder box before I left the house. I usually just let them stay in the hatcher until they are completely fluffed and dried. For some reason I moved them early this time.
Hubby is getting me another surge protector strip as this one is also toasted. I am guessing it didn't do its jobOr it did and we had more than one incident. Ugh. I really, really hate summer here. This horrible mess on top of I have now lost 5 tween and teen birds to the heat.![]()
(My two little darlings are cute as they can be, no whites though![]()
