Had a similar experience with me rouens a couple weeks ago. It was from feral cats. So far 2 of the 3 have been taken care of and my 2 big del x hamp Roos have chased of the 3rd a few time. I will take care of it sooner or later. Do you know how funny it is to see a chicken chase a cat?

I have feral cats here but they have never bothered the chickens or ducks because the chickens chase them,
my ducks are in a pen away from the chickens and it happened at night. One of the four was left alive but died the next day. It had been bitten on the back of the neck and I couldn't save it. I understand some losses but when I saw the cats going into my barn where I have over $1000 worth of meaties they had to go!

One good way to deal with feral cats is when you have some that get along good with everything going on . You trap them spay and neuter them and vaccinate them you also set up a place to feed them . That way you have 1 or 2 or 3 or what not cats that are healthy arnt breeding work with your lifestyle and as cats that arnt breeding they will run off other cats and you thn have a small cohesive group instead of a darwins grab bag that you never know what will pop up and if they will be pet or chicken or child friendly ect. I did a trap nueter release at the mc donalds where I worked it was backed up to a freeway with an underpass and rather large grassy areas and lots of bushes and peopel were forever dropping there kittens off there it was a big problem , I cuaght , fixed and vaccinated 6 cats was able to find homes for 5 of them and the one big tom I put back kept the area stray/ feral cat and pest free for more then a year befor he dissapeared.

All cats here are spayed and neutered I get them done through MNsnap.org cost $25 a cat includes vaccinations. I have even hosted a spay/neuter clinic here at my farm with MNsnap

MrsMoonCat, how are your eggs doing?

Well after spending a very frustrating day

getting my truck into the shop for the umpteenth time for the same dang expensive issue, I did come home to a bright spot. ALL of the beautiful eggs you sent are developing! I am very appreciative and excited about it. I know you will be very pleased with your eggs too - they are well worth the wait. Your partner has great birds and she is also a very nice person. It is unfortunate when unexpected difficulties pop up and interfere with our plans and fun stuff.

Your partner said she sent you a PM. Only you can determine ilwhen it is a bust by giving up on your swap parrner. I've known some of these swappers for a while now and hope to know all of our newer swappers better in coming swaps. I am an optimist and believe everybody is doing the best that they, and their hens can. I know some people would give their eye teeth for some of Lotsapaints eggs. I am one for sure. Denny has some AMAZING birds.

Sorry I just believe people should learn to communicate better. Communication just makes everything better.

I am going through the same thing, 1 guinea and duck gone same day, now 3 leg horns, 2 barred rocks OEGB gone nothing but feathers except today found 1 barred rock body neck all chewed. It's happening during the day. But I have way more then 10 hens.

Sounds like fox to me.... I have been battling a very smart fox. Managed to trap and remove her 3 pups. Lost 12 meat birds a few weeks back and just lost 11 more, ducks and chickens just 2 weeks ago. Now have to lock everyone up tight each night and I am hunting for a good livestock guardian dog that I can trust with my chickens, ducks, geese & children.

TURRRRKEYS! I GOT TURRKEYS.
Worth the wait. Only 2 eggs made it, but that's enough! And madmwolf, I just think everyone wants you to get your eggs. We know its frustraiting. <hugs>

I apologize for offending anyone with my so called negative comments. I will leave this thread alone for now on.
No offense taken by me...I absolutely know how you feel...It's very hard seeing everyone else get there eggs and you still haven't gotten yours shipped past the ship by date...even when we do understand about the hens and their vacations or other situations ..communication and knowing what's going on helps alot. You should be able to voice how you feel.Hope you get your eggs soon

. On a brighter note, I got my eggs in the mail today from crazypetlady.

Nicely packaged and all made it safely. Thanks!

Quick Question --

I just got a shipment of $65/dozen eggs that was pretty badly beaten up with evidence of leaking out the side.

Do I take it to the PO to open it and prove the mishandling or would they do anything anyway??
