Just a friendly reminder on coccidiosis vs cocci

@treslilbirds , what did you do at the vet hospital? Are you a tech or vet?

I started off working in the kennel scooping poop one summer when I was 21 and needed extra money. A year later I had worked my way to vet tech with the help of a now very good friend and coworker. She saw my interest and kindled the flame. I worked there for 10 years, I even did surgery on two of my own dogs. Very minor ones with vet supervision of course! I loved it and learned sooo much. It's where I got my now ancient pit bull old lady girl. I quit when I moved out to California to be with my now husband. We worked with a lot of rescue groups and were in a metro area in a not nice part of town. We saw a LOT of sad sad cases. The emotional burnout after 10 years was real. I made the decision to quit before I ended up resenting my job. I may volunteer or do part time work later on, but my main focus is raising chickens now and making a family.

I never give anything unless they are showing symptoms.
But Corid is safe enough to use "just in case".

I'll go read the symptoms but until I got back on here last month I had never heard of it so my babies have never been diagnosed. The symptoms you or someone just quoted I know some of them have those symptoms. I've got girls walking around with pale combs and wattles and lookin a bit haggard. I thought it was from too many roos but I think the haggard part might could be that but the pale combs and wattles. I switched their feed thinking they weren't gettin what they need. Doin the fermented feed now so hopefully their guts will get cleaned up and if anybody isn't feelin good they'll perk up. The only thing they have ever had was Wazine and Ivermectin for worms and mites. That was last year. I'm on the fence about putting them on a worming schedule.

I've heard the burnout can be bad... A horse vet I used to use now works at the animal shelter and he's mentioned "compassion fatigue".

Raising chickens and starting a family sounds like a great change of pace! Where in CA are you?

@KikisGirls and that is how quickly my two brain cells run out of oxygen . Here I had just asked ya'll about doing the test myself (I don't have a microscope at home but could easily pick up one) and then totally forgot I could take a sample to the vet. Excellent point @treslilbirds about the vet seeing and recognizing other things. Think it would be well worth the health of my flock to drop poo samples off at the vets office. Do I just put it in a ziploc bag?

Yes and Yes.
I can't recommend taking fresh poop into a vet to test for worm loads enough.
