Just because she's so sweet - pic of Acht

I like the spectacles!

She is aging wonderfully. She has so much character about her. Are you finding different girls are developing white feathers faster than others? And also does it only seem to coincide with molting or it is a gradual thing?

Thanks, Duckyfromoz!

She is a character, indeed!

Yes, the snow is coming in at different rates for each duck. Zehn was our holdout - just started getting a little snow on the shoulders a few months ago. Zwei started turning first, and now wears a lovely white pinafore. Not long ago she started getting sprinkles on her head also.

Sieben was the first with head and neck sprinkles - the first day I noticed it I had a half second of panic, as she looked like she'd poked her head into something mildewy! But then I saw it was her feathers.

Molts bring some changes, but it's happening in between molts as well. I am occasionally mistaken about who is who, because from certain angles, a few of the chocolates are starting to look quite similar. The snow on their breasts and bellies is distinctive. Almost everyone has a snow stole.

Thinking of you and your ducks - all that heat. We're getting some seasonal weather today - about -5C now, going to go up to about 5C, then hold near there. Tonight we're expecting "wintry mix."

Blessings to all. Thanks for sharing my joy.

Thank you for describing their colour change. Not having blacks and chocolates- I have never experienced it first hand.

It was apparently just as cold here in Australia over the last few days Amiga. I have heard reports of snow falling in some of the alpine areas in the state in which I live. Very odd for the middle of summer. Christmas Day we had a huge hail storm- It may be the closest I will come to having a white Christmas, but sadly it came with such destruction too. Crazy weather ... It is often said that Melbourne is the city where you can experience four seasons in one day- but one at a time is much more favourable..and my choice would be spring.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

These came through Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. Apparently they have an associated hatchery in California, which is where the box of babies came from a couple of years ago. Wow. Almost two years ago. My, my.

They were healthy and beautiful! Most of them are slender and upright. Zehn is just a little more curvacious and plump, but still definitely a Runner.

My Runners are one of the great joys of my life. It feels like such a privilege to have them.

Acht is such an engaging duck. She's the first to greet visitors, often the first in line to greet me in the morning, or at any time.

Acht is adorable!!

Does snow happen to blue/grey ducks also? I've noticed (or else I'm going crazy) that my little blue/grey duck is getting more white patches and spots on her. She is only 8 months old. She is also my "bad" duck, so my DH said it's the badness coming out in her!
