Bbrowsing the internet for future coop ideas i came across this. Dimentions make it big enough for 8 chickens, hardware cloth would be added along with plexiglass windows. BUT Its made of cedar. Cedar chips are bad for chickens but is this the same problem? It's certainly cheaper than a shed.

I would not. The cedar oil will still be released. That seems like a lot of money for such a small footprint. No way that you could build something yourself? A used shed is the way to go. I lucked into a free used 8x8 shed. I also lucked into having neighbors with a tractor and trailer who will go get it for me and place it for free. We will be modifying our existing 8x16 shed this winter/spring for our new upgraded coop. You can also hire shed builders to move a shed. It cost me about $250 to have a 8x16 shed moved 20 miles.

Which dimensions are you using to calculate? The best I can tell from the dimensions it look like it's 4.4' x 4.4' interior space at most. The dimensions listed include the "porch" area with benches (the part that has the slatted roof). I personally don't think it's worth it.

I do actually plan on building a bigger coop, hopefull next season. I'm just daydreaming here on designs. I'm sure mine wont look fancy at all. This just popped up as things do when you browse. I thought it was cute and not a bad design with modifications of course. But I'd only get it if it were used and nearly free. Then I wondered about the cedar so I figured I'd ask. Shame. I've seen nice coops built smaller so holding much less chickens but costing twice as much. If it wasn't for the cedar it might have been a better deal for someone needing a prefab. Oh well.

Fair point! I was going by the dimensions listed in the specs.

It is cute Miss.Cryss but you'd have to paint the crap out of it for it to be safe i'm talking many coats and the reviews aren't too good if you look other places,although you would get a better price.

Western red cedar is not the same as eastern aromatic cedar. It looks like western. We built our coop of western cedar four years ago and it has been fine.

It's very cute, but you will be paying a lot for 'cute'! It's too small, and too short, and too expensive.
