Just curious? Who names all their chickens and who doesn't?

Hi, new to this site and to raising chickens! We have six hens that are now almost 2 months old, and since I'm allergic to everything, these are the only pets my kids can have, thus, we named them!

Henrietta, a RIR with the poopiest poop butt problem ever (do they ever outgrow this or will I be wiping her bottom until she dies?)
Clara and Lucy, Black Australorps that I wish we'd named Thelma and Louise seeing how they behave now
Gertie, an Indian Red Jungle Fowl (the runt)
Nellie, a Barred Plymouth Rock

and, last but by no means least....

Loretta, a Buff Orpington who has a princess complex and demands to be petted and held and pampered. She sits on my son's shoulder while he walks around like a pirate with a parrot. I'm waiting for the day I look outside and see she's wearing one of my daughter's Barbie tiaras.

Yes, I understand these are supposed to be farm animals, but we can't help it.

When you are raising chickens with your primary aged classroom you can't get around it and end up with names like Jumpy, Pickles, Peanut Butter and Miss Henny Penny.

I started naming my hens with charming old lady names like Beulah, Tillie, and Peggy. Then the kids got to name some - Sunshine, Beastie, Big Mama. Now I'm at the point where I have so many that I choose names that are easy to remember based on some physical or personality attribute of theirs - Honeydew (ISA Brown who is the color of a honeydew melon), Azure (Blue Orpington), Cornelia (Dark Cornish), Silverbell (Silver-Laced Cochin), Dottie (Silver Laced Wyandotte), etc. The only time I don't name them is when I know they will be given away or rehomed eventually ...

Of course my ladies have names! They are my pets!! Don't you know spoiled chickens lay better eggs? I have 18 hens, 10 varieties, here goes; Big Momma Eliza, Sissy, Lacey, Dottie, Sophie, Honey, Raven, Mary, Little Red, Riley, Jenny, Vivi, Rosie, Omi, Ruthie, Myrt, Maggie, and Millie !! And I know them all apart. They each have their own little personality even within the breed. I surely do love my hens and the feeling is mutual. I can tell you story after story of how they show affection for me!!! Don't believe it?......get a few chicks, hand raise them, visit with them everyday and you'll soon see just what wonderful pets chickens make.

You Go Girl!!!!! I so understand this way of life. I recently took a silkington (silkie and buff orpington mix) from a friend that could no longer keep her. She is a princess and likes to sit on my lap or shoulder. Truthfully, I think she does this because it's higher and safer than down on the ground with the rooster and other girls, being that she is the new kid but I love it. She wants to be with me all the time and is very sweet.

I love Australorps and won't ever be without them. What are yours doing that you wish they were called Thelma and Louise? I'm so curious. Our Violet is my shaddow too. At our other house, she would knock on the door and start talking to me. If I ignored she would continue this for 2 hours. She's relentless. Some days she would just walk right in the kitchen as I came in from outside. She is very personable and chatty. Lord that chicken talks all day long and rarely shuts up but that is part of what makes her so endearing.

Some hens are just Drama Queens, yelling and carrying on about the smallest, silliest things and others could just care less.

It is amazing to us how they can each have their own personality. Who knew chickens where this entertaining?
We are so glad that we chose to raise them - our life would not be as rich without chickens

We named every bird, chicken and duck, that we ever had except for the duck pairs we knew we'd be selling. My latest are four NH Reds - Tillie, Terrie, Minnie, and Dottie (because she's a cross with a White Leghorn and had white "spots" as a pullet and is mottled now - AND, she's the best layer ever!!), 3 Bantam Orps - Lucy, Millie, and Penny; and two Black-Laced Cochins - Goldie and Blackie (I know, I know, not very orginal but we'd run out of "-ie" names and it tells them apart - one has a gold-flecked butt, and the other doesn't)... Of course they don't know their names, but it's fun and if something's going on with one, having a name identifies them right away.

Ok, ok, I admit it, we name many of ours. We really only name the ones that are our favorites, but have had many others that names just kind of jumped out at us.
