the only thing with sensor ones that close at dusk is if it gets stormy through the day, your door is going to close and lock your chickens out. a timer is the easiest.

Update: DH installed the hardware cloth. Works like a charm . I came up with the idea of using a safety pin to hold the hardware cloth in place. It slides up and down poifectly

Does the Add-A-Motor come with good instructions? I'm nervouse about constructing the dor and having it work properly. I like the idea of it being solar powered, but I doubt I'll go that route. What happens if it is cloudy? Or snows? I just want one that runs on a timer, keeps them safe, and isn't too loud. I'veseen some that are very loud, and I don't think my neighbors would appreciate that at 6am. Add-A-Motor didn't seem as loud as some of the other ones in the videos I've watched. Think I'll be purchasing one, but I just want to make sure I know how to use it..lol

We've had an add-a-motor on our pop door for about 1 year, other than the string breaking once, it works great.

Was the string fairly easy to replace? What did you replace it with? Thanks for the feedback!

Hubs said, yes, it was pretty easy, took about 10 min. The instruction booklet that came with the motor told the type of fishing line to use. Something like 60-80 lbs.
