Just joined...

Hello! I live in southern Colorado on a ridge at 7k' altitude. We have a few acres, are off grid and building a house, and we want fresh eggs! But we do have bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, foxes...weasels, raccoons, skunks, you name it we got it.

I knit, love to bake bread, and we have a greenhouse that needs outfitting. Trying to be more self sufficient, and eat healthier.

So, hopefully we can have lots of great information exchanges!
Welcome! I just joined as well. We have all those critters except the bear here in southern california at 1300 altitude! We are still working out Fort Knox and would be interested to see whatever you end up doing. I knit and bake bread too! Good luck with all your projects!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens Leslie! We are glad you joined the flock!:welcome BYC is a helpful site providing all the information you need to know about poultry! There is always space for more members on the BYC roost!:highfive: Mesh or chicken wire definitely isn't a wise idea with bears or mountain lions. I agree that hardware cloth is of best choice. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

Welcome and what fun! I am sure, on here, you will find tons of ways to keep your chickens safe! With a bit money and a hammer you will be good to go! Welcome and Happy Thanksgiving!
