Here, West of the Rocky Mts.... Hellman's is "Best Foods" and it is my favorite too. I have not been able to duplicate the flavor when I make my own mayonaise, which is sooooo very easy to make and much less expensive.

I buy my Best Foods/Hellman's at Costco, I pay about $5.00 for a gal of it.

You're not kidding! Everything is up and will get higher. I just bought a bag of my regular dog food and not only is it up a few bucks, it's 5 lbs less in the bag!

Do they think we don't notice the smaller containers?!
Yeah, have you looked at laundry detergent lately? They halved the size of the bottles and doubled the price of the soap. I can't even find the large 'regular' size anymore.

That's why I started making my own detergent. Every time I went to buy a bottle, the price had gone up.

There is an excellent thread on here about making laundry detergent. Due to that thread I make my own now and LOVE it. I use this mix

6 qts of water

1/2 bar of fels naptha laundry soap shredded

1/3 cup borax

1/3 cup arm and hammer washing soda

Boil all until dissolved. I put mine in 3 liter bottles and fill 2/3 of the way and top off with cold water. Shake well and let it sit for a day before you use it. It gets thick so shake well before you run each load. I use about 4 tablespoons for normal load and 1/4 cup or so for heavy duty stuff.

Also if any of you have a Grocery outlet nearby, it's a great place to get mayo. I bought Hellmans last week for $1.49 a jar.

Thanks for the detergent recipe! Where do you find the "fels naptha laundry soap shredded" ?
Is that or borax toxic at all?

Fels naptha is a bar, like regular soap, but you have to chop it fine or use a cheese grater. I have found it at Winco, I'd call around different grocery stores in your area and ask if they have it in the laundry isle.

Nothing is toxic, it's all stuff used in the making of laundry soap. It smells very fresh and clean and does a good job...of course you would never want to ingest the stuff, but it's not harmful for doing your laundry

Miss Prissy, Duke's is my brand of choice.
I used a similar detergent recipe I found here only it's dry, and good for the lazy. It works quite well and lasts a long time. Best of all, it costs next to nothing. I'm sick of being stressed out over groceries.

LOL, same for me. My local Piggly Wiggly has been selling quart jars of Dukes 2 for $5, so I've been stocking up. So far, I've got a freshly opened jar in the fridge and 5 jars in the pantry. Potato salad just ain't the same without Dukes!
