Just thought I would inform everyone....

I've threatened them with the recipe book, with bodily harm if an egg wasn't in the coop in the morning, started calling them by names like chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, chicken gumbo, etc., I told them dinner was either chicken, or eggs, they decide. jI've threatened to hang them from the roost by their toe nails. I didn't kill them when they ate my precious few ripe tomatos, nor the broccoli, nor the lettuces, nor my roses, etc. I've tried being nice, offering yummy treats. I've followed them all over the yard to see if they were laying in the weeds or under the bushes. I gave them metal nest boxes with their own hay! Even put one nest box on the floor of the coop in case they can't fit their huge butts in the nest box. I have two igloo dog houses in their run, with hay in both. They're getting layer feed. AND NOT A SINGLE DARN EGG YET!!! I'm beyond having patience!!! By gosh they are old enough to lay an egg! And whoever posted about the Light Brahams, HUSH! I have two of them!! They can NOT wait that long!! They are all accepting the roo's advances, so I have no idea what they are waiting on!

I'm tired of negotiating, tomorrow I mean business! I BEST FIND AN EGG!! Or else the toothpaste scenerio seems like a wonderful idea! There's gotta be an egg just waiting to come out. A bit of a squeeze and out it should come! Squeeze their little guts out. Or wait, I mean that precious egg out!

COME ON CHICKENS! Start paying ya rent already!

Time to take a book and a chair out and read to the girls. The Betty Crocker Cookbook - start reading from the poultry section - see if that gets them in the right mindset...

My RIR wont start laying either! I am starting to get excited for them to start. I am not to the mad point but I do have 3 other hens that are laying for me. So at least I have some eggs while I wait for them too. My Americaunas are no where near being old enough to lay. Aren't RIR supposed to lay at 5 months? I know one of their faces has started to turn more red in the last week so maybe there is an egg getting ready to come out. They are the first chicks that I have gotten so I am super excited to see my babies become hens! Oh and I love the story!!! That is the funniest thing I have seen in awhile!

I just picked up some new chicks from a breeder and asked him if he had any advice for getting chickens to lay eggs. He told me you have to have lots of light and sometimes you 'have to heat them up'. He puts tobasco sauce in the drinking water!!!!

I'm tempted, but what if I have roos not hens? Could make them very angry....

mine is 28 weeks and still hasnt layed she is alot smaller than the other ones so i dont blame her she will lay when she lays lol hope you get yours soon

Where did you get your EE's? Some lay earlier than others and it would be nice to know who has the fastest laying strain. Could each of you list where. Don't mean to hijack but it would help the rest of us if we decide to get some. Gloria jean

I got it from another BYCer. I'd prefer not ot say who in case they don't want me to.

It's just super frustrating because my hens had finally reached laying age (they came of age too close to winter, so they didn't lay, but I'm sure they would've started in spring) and then they got killed by a weasel one night. I raised them patiently waiting, and was So Close to being rewarded with eggs from my 4 girls (1 silkie/unknown bantum mix, 1 pure white silkie and 2 colombian of unknown breed). Now I only have 1 EE old enough to lay. And then 3 little pullets 2 months younger. I've been waiting for about a year....
