I'm just rereading a wonderful article by Nathalie Ross reposted by another forum contributor (see https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...r-a-penicillin-shot-to-a-chicken#post_4280176), and the only thing that perplexes me is that no clear explanation is given as to why a medication containing the suffix "caine" is being used on poultry when every poultry owner is told repeatedly to never ever use any medication ending in "caine" as it is toxic to chickens.

Is this a completely unrelated type of "caine" having nothing to do with pain-killers? I just want to be clear before I proceed with tracking it down at my feed store. It seems clear from Ross's article that this is what she's most comfortable using, but I don't know enough about it to know for sure. Thanks to any and all for your feedback on this.
