I love it that your RIR is 9 years old!!!My geriatric RIR (9 years) laid an eggs other day. It was cracked, and inside contents was wolfed down. I noticed shell was quite thin. Other chickens' eggs are normal. I think MaryJane may have osteoporosis already

For the most part, I think good care and a healthy diet extends the lifetime and egg-laying time of chicken just like it does for humans.
