Btw thinking of taking classes here when I get a dog but choosing one is so hard :hit

Originally was thinking of all the Dog Mall's puppy series but idk. That's expensive lol but worth it.

But now I'm thinking I might do all the puppy, adult, and CGC classes here. Like puppy preschool (before they're old enough for Kindergarten cause i don't want to wait 2 weeks to start training), puppy kindergarten 1 + 2, good manners, and CGC. And then possibly the sniff it, training games, neurobics, or out and about just for fun.

And this one also has an out and about type thing but it's waterfront wandering. The waterfront is very busy too so it's good.

I would have to do the agility training at the Dog Mall though because Pawsitively doesn't teach competitive agility, just for fun, and Sirius doesn't teach agility at all. So I guess maybe I could take some classes from each place lol idk.
Wow, we don't have anything like that around her. The closest thing is the smelly Petco.

Turns out the same farm also has Aussies and they have an Aussie video and a comparison video. Here's all 3.

Apparently the comparison is with ACD not Aussie. Haven't watched it yet but seems good. And more likeable. The Aussie lady I feel like kinda oversold the whole working aspect and dominance thing and I feel like didn't really know the history cause I thought they were developed on American ranches? So idk. That annoyed me lol and how she kept being like they're not good pets. I feel like the BC is more crazy than the Aussie lol

Anyway, I think I like this girl better lol

I watched the middle video. I think she covered the Aussie well. As far as their origins no one knows for sure. I believe they were developed from dogs that came from Australia like she says, but I'm not sure about all of what she said because they don't really know for sure.

There's tons of trainers and training facilities around here. I guess we're lucky because we're between Boston and Cape Cod and also I think the East coast in general is more populated so it allows for more trainers (and other pet businesses) I guess cause theres so many more people and dogs/animals. Our Petco is pretty good but I think I'd rather go to something like one of these lol

This one is good too but it's further away.

They have a lot of specialty classes though like reactive dog if I ever needed it.

Although you do have to be careful because there are still somw bad trainers around but there's a lot of good too. But it makes it hard to choose lol

That makes sense. She did mention how they were the ranching dog in the west for like 100 years so that could allude to it I guess. And they probably were developed elsewhere and brought over and perfected here. But I just never heard that story before. Good to know the video wasn't totally off base though and was pretty accurate

My books mention Basque shepherds coming to work here during world war II. Bringing with them little blue dogs. They may have contributed to the breed but most of what I read doesn't say they were the base of the breed like she implied.

Basque shepherd dogs are usually credited with being the base breed for many herding breeds going back to Roman times. The Australian shepherd remains a bit of a mystery, so people can skew the theories any way they like.

She did describe the pig-headed-ness of the breed to a tee. You do need to be in control, but after your description of Gator and his antics I think you are familiar with what is possible with an Aussie. Some dogs are more challenging than others. I prefer show lines for an easier going temperament. Both of my show bred have ended up with Lymes, so I'm unfamiliar with how they are as far as activity as they get older. Both mine tore their knees too. My show bred are big boned goofs.

So she knows more than I thought but that much? To be fair, I mostly got the "she's wrong" thing from the comments, lots saying she is or doesnt know what she's talking about or that they came from US ranches but I guess she actually knows MORE than those people lol although a few said the little blue dogs were Pyrenean shepherds not aussies?

Funny, people just like arguing it seems. Since there's no absolute correct answer to their origins mostly theories, others can't say she's wrong. :idunno
