One day my husband's bike was stolen off our porch. Not expensive, but a nice bike and it had the arm I used to run the dogs (probably worth more than the bike).
The odd thing was an old beat up bike was left in the yard. We kept it for about a week then put it out by the street. It sat out there for weeks and no one took it. That neighborhood you could put anything on the street and it would be gone the next day. But we didn't normally have trouble with theft.
I finally brought it up in the yard next to our fence. At least 100 feet away from the street.
The next day I caught someone stealing it! I chased them down and took it back! I didn't want the dang thing and would have given it away if he had asked, but I'm not going to let you steal it.
