Keep out signs

Gosh, put the pressure on before my second cup of coffee.

Will this do? and it's on topic.

I know an older fellow with 2 huge chessnut trees that grow between the sidewalk and curb. People come every year and scour the ground for the nuts and leave the husks for him to clean up . It's really quite rude then one fellow was throwing a 2x4 up in the trees to knock them down. He would gladly share if they would share the rake and maybe help an 80 year old clean up after them!!

I agree you cannot be nice. Lock the gates. Post No Tresspassing signs and when these theives come back charge them with tresspassing. Period. No second chances no friendly little sign. Spell it out in plain english.

My grandmother had a crabapple tree in her yard and she would put an ad in the paper in allowing people to pick the friut as long as the knocked on the door. she had people drive into the yard at night and drive into her backyard. She finally stopped the ad, but still had people stopping at night to pick the fruit. She finally had to put up a metal cable in her front yard to keep people out.
so being nice does not allways work.

Unfortunately, you may need to be a little assertive. I would lock the gate, make sure the fence is hard to climb over/go through and put a sign up that says, "No picking fruit without permission from owner" or something along that line. It lets people know that you don't want them to pick your fruit, but you are open to share when asked.

Ok then, maybe this will do.

"do you believe in life after death? Trespass and find out!"

But seriously, I really feel for you. Since this one person seems to be the trouble I would just talk to her and tell her that she is not permitted to enter your property and pick fruit anymore. And put a no trespassing sign up for everybody else.

I think this is closer to what I want, I will add something about it being CURRENT permission.

The problem is we only know this person by when she shows up, no name, no phone # no idea where she lives. She is not a neighbor, not a friend, just some one who likes free fruit. I totally agree that short of having her name and photo on the gate, she will think that means everyone else but her.

I do not want to ruffle the neighbors feathers, so no mean dogs (jerks next door have plenty of yard bark already in the all day pit bull-chihuahua mutt pair of dogs that bark at each other all day) We had geese in the past, but not in to being bit by them any more (ours were MEAN)

Probably a "high Voltage/electric fence" sign would be more effective than a no stealing sign. Who wants to test it even if it wasn't really hot?
But do put up no trespassing signs in accordance with your local posting rules, so that you can have your ground covered should you need to press charges.
