Keeping 2 cockerels...trouble?

The only thing i'd worry about is one boy taking all the girls, that would leave an unhappy guy.
Your silkie would likely be the unhappy guy, and there is nothing sadder than an shunned silkie.
If it was me id get him a few more silkie ladies and have one very happy rooster "when he grows up" lol!
I don't really have much confidence the two breeds you have can coexist peacefully for very long when the hormones hit.
Silkies are odd and LF males tend to be quite pushy.
Not trying to be a downer, just giving you an informed heads up.:)

No pecking problems here at all. They really only go in the coop to sleep and use the nesting boxes. Only about 8 sq ft of my dang coop gets used. So frustrating!

BUT I would never ever go that small. Just wish I'd not built such a monster of a coop.
You may be the first person I’ve seen on BYC that didn’t wish they’d built bigge!

I think perhaps in CA, if the coop is always open to the run, they could use a smaller coop. In my experience, when I decided to go from 6 to 12 chickens in a coop big enough for 8, I had to increase my coop size. I've had to do this a couple times until now we are building one 8x10 coop, so we can be done with building coops. Then I will have 1 8x4 sf coop with 8 external nesting boxes, 2 4x4 coops, and an 8x10 where hopefully they can all live together in harmony. Part of adding smaller coops was to separate aggressive hens wounding the docile ones. So, chicken math is also coop math around here. :barnie I would never regret a coop that's too big. :D Better to start off with that instead of ending up with a condo complex of coops.
I'm in the same boat - my coop and run meet the 4 and 10 sqft recommendation. But I've now added a bachelor coop, built tractors for meat chickens, and planning several other coops / flocks.
To the OP- I have no expertise with roosters, but got a lot of recommendations about segregation - if having a ratio less than 10 hens per roo, keeping both roosters away from the hens is another way to keep the peace, if that's possible for you.

To all - OP asked about when to expect trouble to kick in - at what age should she expect to see the testosterone kick in?

4 months is the powder keg age here at least.
Worse first thing in the morning and before sunset so no peace to be had for at least four or five months after the stones drop.:)

It was just such a huge undertaking for me. It worked out, though, because I use a lot of it for storage of chicken supplies. I can't have anymore chickens, and even if I could, I would be able to add more roosting space and solve any ills.

Now it looks like I'll be moving soon, and I won't be able to take it with me. I can take my smaller coop - no prob. But that monster walk-in is a no go.

Yeeees! Poor girls have to put up with that mess before breakfast.
When I just had the one boy i'd carry the overly sexy hens to the bowls in the morning as a kindred courtesy.
Not so bad now, the old rooster shuts that crap down.
Old guy just dances now, he's refined.:lau
OMG YES! My one boy is so crazy "randy" first thing... Scandalous!!!

Well shoot, things have taken a turn tonight. My easter egger cockerel starting terrorizing my silkie pullet (1/3 his size) and I couldnt stand listening to it so I brought her in where she cried for the silkie cockerel (she doesnt leave his side) so now I have them split up. I know this is all part of the chicken world but the poor girl was terrified and the little silkie cockerel was upset about it too. The easter egger cockerel seems to have zero interest in the easter egger pullet though they are siblings.

I want an old boy like that, but mine are both 12-13 weeks!
