before they might start fighting? The cockerel is a 14 week old Silver Lakenvelder. He is now crowing and trying his best to mate with some of the girls. The roo is a 14 month old Silver Laced Wyandotte. Obviously he is much bigger than the little cockerel. There are 12 girls in the run with the boys but not all of them are at mating age yet. So far there haven't been any fights between the boys. Should I separate them or just hope for the best and see what happens?

dont mind my stupidity, and maybe i thought I understood this and I don't, but if they're the same age, isnt a roo and a cockeral the same thing?

I have a feeling they will let you know when they need to be separated

just keep an eye on them. I had the same situation and i saw them developing issues and took care of it.

14 Week old vs 14 Month old.... I had to read it a few times to catch it..... I am actually curios on this also since I have a similar situation.. Sorry to hijack slightly... I have noticed that my older recently introduced Roo is becoming more aggressive towards me, I think this may be because all of my girls are too young for him and he is a bit frustrated..? Meanwhile my Younger cockerel isn't crowing yet, and is letting itself be treated like a hen... So, what is the general consensus on Roo cohabitation??

they will most certainly let you know when its
time for them to be seperated.
when there are hens in the flock
some Roos will fight to the death.

ah yes I see now :-) I am going to be giving this a try actually. Picking up a year old roo today to habitate with my 3 month old girls. After he's separaed out for about a month and I get back from vacation, I am supposed to be getting a pair of (I believe they will be about 8 weeks then) ameracuanas so I'll be interested to see how the two boys get along once they're older (of course they'll be separated til the Ameracuanas are older and bigger) and how all three stages of birds get along.
