If one of the males passes, or if any of them produce undesired qualities in their fry, I'll still have the other. Though in order to breed my big boy, I think I should find a big female as well! I'd love to see more pictures of your bettas btw. Hopefully one of my males can help achieve the female halfmoon that you want

Thank you for considering me, but I'm happy with any female you breed, as long as she is healthy. I can't promise I'll be able to buy, as space is a problem, but if I have the room and time to clean another tank, I will definitely take one or two. I'm a little confused though, what do you plan to do if a male produces undesirable fry? Cull? Or simply not allow him to breed? Is the fish you were treating still alive? If so, I wouldn't breed him. Seems like his genetics aren't the greatest. Maybe with a stellar female, but I don't know... :/

Those bettas are beautiful! The blue coloured one's tail is really pretty. I love bettas although they can be a bit of a challenge to keep and probably breed. (I have never bred a betta yet)

Doesn't seem too difficult. My big male's making a bubble best already as he can see two females. I hope to get my halfmoon in to breed with him as soon as the nest is done. It's very tempting to buy an eggbound female from the pet shop though, just for surprises. I saw one last time I visited, so fat she was at the bottom of her aquarium. Poor girl. If I had space I would've taken her.

Thanks Diana! I have to admit, they were a bit stressful for me at first but I think I'm really starting to get the hang of them. It'll definitely be a long while before I upgrade to breeding them, but I can't wait for the challenge and I would love to see the fry that my boys, and maybe even my new girl, will produce.

You seem to have become quite knowledgable in a short amount of time. I commend you! I have three bowls going right now, two females and a male, with four glass shrimp. I will upgrade to four or five tanks next time I see a nice male and have space and time to clean the tanks.

Is he already making a bubble nest? I was wondering how you really know when to breed them as bettas can be quite aggressive. Do you have to wait until he has finished making the nest?

If you have a community tank with short tailed and finned fish, then you could introduce ONE betta to the tank.

Orlando is doing much better, but he's definitely not going to be a breeder. If I get undesired fry from my breeder boys, it depends what level of "undesired" they come in. If they're deformed, they may have a hard time living and I may have to consider culling. I'll also be sure to end their breeding days, as I would hate to see more fry suffering. If the fry are different colors than what I want, I'll try my best to rehome them or breed them until I get desired qualities(just because they look different doesn't mean they don't carry a bit of the desired genes!). I might even breed the parents to the fry to increase the probability of getting closer looking fry(in-breeding bettas isn't as bad as it sounds, it actually improves some lines). Good luck with your bettas, it sounds like your boy is getting close to spawning!

I don't plan to keep any Bettas in community tanks. What are you referring to? ... :/

I see now. The betta seems to have stopped building the nest, but maybe it just takes time. He had been at it for days already, and hasn't made any progress other than a few bubbles hanging around the edges of the bowl.

Monroe wasn't feeling good with the tank changes(nitrite/nitrate spikes, Orlando moving in and out for treatment). His bubble nest was destroyed. Now that the temp. is stabilized, he sees a female and all the fish are settled, he got back to work. It's not magnificent, but you gotta give them some credit... They're just tiny little creatures working hard to provide for the next generation

I think Diana was referring to keeping each betta in a tank with other, peaceful fish. You keep guppies, right? Maybe you can try housing bettas in there(females can be together, males individually of course). Just don't forget not to overcrowd
