Keeping Fish

Hm, you should check up with Nifty on that one. Closest I could get was this:

Maybe that's a little more your style? Do you breed your comets? I am installing some reeds this summer into my goldfish pond, but so far I don't really have any breeding. Maybe it's a temp problem? They are in relatively cold water. :/

Leaf

My comets spawn every spring, but the eggs get gobbled up pretty quickly, which I'm thankful for because the two years they didn't I was overrun.

The warming waters in Spring will trigger spawning, it seems to be a sunlight amount and water temperature things, sometimes I add too warm of water in my aquariums when I do my water changes and that triggers them to spawn, I can tell by the foaming protein on the water surface, they too will gobble up the eggs.

So you need some places for the eggs to land and a place for the fry to hide as well as that furry green algae on the sides for the fry to eat. The reeds may help if your goldfish don't eat it.

Jane Doe(my female betta) keeps scavenging around and overfeeding herself. She eats anything she finds in between the gravel. Fasting her in epsom salt helps reduce her swelling and empty her stomach, but when I put her back she just overeats some more. She can't be hungry, because she gets frozen brine shrimp every day(I'm starting to feed freeze dried bloodworms as well). This started two days ago. I'm worried she'll blow up or something. I guess I can clean the bottom and add more gravel, but in the meantime I don't want to stress her out too much. Do I keep her in a separate tank until the gravel is clean?

Feed them only the correct amount so there's no extra food, each betta requires around 2-3 blood worms a feeding twice a day, or a flake of tropical fish flakes, all else just pollutes the tank. It's normal for fish to look for food all day, they don't have much else to do.

She's eating anything; including the algae wafers for my snail, dead/dying plant matter...anything that fits into her mouth. Her stomach looks tight so I'm removing her. I can't have her overeating anymore, her skin will rip

That can't happen, I would leave her be, but it's your fish. It's possible she's making eggs and that's the reason she's hungry and looks fat.

I may be over exaggerating, but I still don't think it would be good for her to keep eating. Her belly is bulging and very round, and she is pretty calm so she's not easily stressed. She's temporarily relocated until I clean the gravel and add more. I hope she is developing eggs, though. Thanks
