August 30th is the actual day of the event of the swap meet FYI
Chickenstock is a gathering of BYC folks to meet actually face to face, sit around and talk poultry or what have you.
Plans in the works is having a chinese raffle setup...you bring something to raffle off, you bring one thing you participate in the raffle.....so for example if ten people bring one thing everyone that brought something will get ten tickets. With the tickets you get you drop your ticket in a bag sitting in front of the item you would like to win. Tickets are free just make sure you bring something to raffle off, be it birds, supplies, etc, anything poultry related!
Also Matt John (poultrymansupplies.com, and author to articles in Backyard Poultry Magazine) has volunteered to give a talk about medications and supplements for your poultry. All of this stuff he carries and he will be there selling products as well. From legbands to books, to medications, you name it he's got it. Matt has TONS of knowledge and a very personable guy to talk to about anything you can imagine about poultry.
We had a "chickenstock" in Sellersburg back in the spring and had a real good time. About 17 folks from here on BYC showed up.
Hope to see everyone there. Again when it gets closer to the date (8/30) I will post something "official"...Keep your eyes open!
OOOOOHHHH! That does sound like fun! I would like to try and come, will have to talk to DH first! That's right after the state fair (when I plan to truely introduce him to the world of chickens!). Sounds great!
So this is a family event, right? DD and DS can come too?
Where is it held? I would be coming up 421 from Lexington. Is there an admission charge for the swap? Whould there be room to get a 16 ft trailer loaded with coops in there?
It's at the city park in Milton just off SR36. There is parking there, but get there early if you plan on bring that large trailer( I got there about 8am, and it was PACKED). If you want to sell items in the swap, park and set up where you want, I believe it's like 15 dollars to sell items there. That money goes to the park. There is a lady that will go around and inquire about the fee.
I dont know all the specifics about selling there just my observations from being their last time.
If you want to just go there and buy there is no fee or admission for this.
