Kentucky people

Boy after reading all of this bad stuff about sickness is really scary. I have acquired most of mine from farmers close to home, but I have bought a couple of mine from a guy at the london stockyard. He always have lots of chickens and they all look healthy. There has been a couple of guys selling that I wouldn't go near. I will knock on wood to hope none of mine get sick.

I have only had back luck with a couple of my turkeys. My big white hen ended up loosing an eye. I guess she got into a fight. She gets around just fine. And my nosey black tom got into some string and broke his leg. His leg healed but is just crocked and walks with a limp. They are so mischievious. When they are out they wonder around with the goats, horses and anywhere they can get.

Croney00 ,

Hey there!!! Are those cochins doing ok for you? My hubby said to tell you he had some Blue Laced Red Whyndotts for you when ever you are ready to come run them around the yard..LOL He is crazy.. I figuared out who that was with the bad chickens in the Berea area, I made a few calls to the ones we do deal with and asked around so that we wont be going to them. I was told that this person knows they are sick when they sale them , and they just figuare we are all a bunch of crazy stupid people who will buy them and not tell others when we get stuck with it. WRONG!!!!

How's that little Frizzle doing?? You know by showing him to me the other day when you were here that you have me wanting some now.. LOL Hubby is going to get mad if I start filling up his cages and pens now.. HAHA.. He will get over it .. Glad that I got on this morning and found you on here, think the hubby is going to Russell Springs tonight to see what he can see... we had never went so it will be a good trip to see all the chicks they have.. See ya around on here , let me know how those cochins are doing for you.. Take care.

Let me know what you all find in Russell Springs. And dont call me when your husband wants to chase some chickens. haha
The cochins are doing fine. The rooster is actually doing ok with my others. They keep there distance from each other.
I ask the lady I got the frizzle from, to forward me contact information from the breeder she got him from. I will let you know if I get it. If not I have him with a little red banty/silkie hen. They should make some pretty babies. She is a good layer. Do you have a incubator?

I was told the sale went through the winter too, but evidently not!! I wasn't there last week, but nobody said anything about it the week before.

Well, James Brown is dead.

He had looked like he was doing better, but this morning he was laying on his side and couldn't get up or move hardly at all, so I put him out of his misery.

The Jap boy has BOTH sides of his face swollen this morning, I might have to just cull him, too - he isn't running around like he had been (not that he probably can see very well with both sides of his face swollen).

The others still all seem to be fine and dandy - no sign of this sickness at all.

I am wondering if I just culled the sick ones if the others might get by without getting it? Probably wishful thinking.

Maybe the two I just got recently were carriers, even though they weren't "sick" when I got them? If so, then I'm screwed for Cochin bantams, because they've been in with all of my cochin bantams - even my Nana

That's it - no more strange birds are coming onto my property - unless it's from someone I KNOW.

I am so depressed over this. James was so beautiful.

Oh no, I am so so so sorry!

Is there any way you can take a bird to the UK diagnostic lab on Monday? That way you'd know for sure what you're fighting...the swollen faces sound like coryza to me.
