Kentucky people

Welcome to all the new members! I havent been able to keep up with some posts lately but I should be able to now. Was also letting everyone know I got a brochure in today about the Green River Show in Brownsville and will be posting all the info about it tomorrow night. I seem to have misplaced it and will find it tomorrow.

From Louisville, its straight down 65. Its about,....10 miles or so maybe from Bowling Green. I still havent found the brochure, but I am sure I dont have it here and left it at my grandparents. I will post the info asap, I do know its April 19th.

Well Jerry and I went up to the Auction Barn in Mitchell this evening. Fair prices and a far turnout of birds up there. I would guess about 20 pens of chickens. As always too many roosters, they only brought 2-3 bucks each. I was a bit surprised (especially it being an auction) Buff Orphington hens were going for 9 bucks each.....Saw some Mille Fleur that went for just 2 bucks for a pair...Yes two bucks! Were some murans that went for 3 bucks a pullet....Even had a pair of peacocks and a turkey! Wasnt a bit interested in the rabbits that were selling on the same table though. Hopefully if this weather keeps up it might be a decent turn out on some Monday evenings. Thought I would share.

I ran into a guy there that mentioned an auction on Friday nights in Oden....I know its in Indiana but its the southern part so I thought I would ask if anyone's ever been there or heard about it.

Hi folks!

My BF is planning to move to KY within the next 12 months. Eventually I think I am going to join him.

What we both want is to have a small farm, and be pretty much self-sufficient. Maybe sell some of our crops or some other type of product to bring in cash. Or we could have an Internet job of some sort, maybe.

Anyway, we are hoping for at the very least 10 acres. Preferably closer to 20.

Niether of us know anything about farming. If anyone here can give us pointers on what to look for in a property, we'd be very grateful. Also, some suggestions of where to look in terms of county would be much appreciated. He'd like to be within a few hours drive of Bowling Green.

Hey all, thought I would share my woes. One of my neighbors complained about my roosters crowing so I had to move my Silkie flock to my nephew's place outside Paris.

I have one EE hen and one Black Australorpe pullet that I am keeping for eggs. I plan to buy three more large young hens just to have my own eggs. I will be looking to get them in early to mid may after my next knee surgery. If any one has few they want to sell just let me know.

Everyone has been relocated except the hens that are setting and my two layers. As soon as the other Silkie hens hatch they will be joining the flock in Paris. I have had the chickens here for 7 years and never a complaint. It seems if there had been a problem it would not have taken so long for it to have been mentioned.

I search the listings for properties almost daily. I will be very happy to leave the city.

Tom,

That is so awful. I can not believe after that amount of time, someone complained. Whenever I've been there, it isn't noisy. And what about their children and lawnmowers when you might be trying to get some rest and recover from your surgery. Won't that be noisy.

Hate to be Pollyanna sunshine ( Mainly because that is sooooo not me!), but - things happen for a reason. This may give you the motivation to find that perfect place for you and your birds. Where you can have as many as you want!

Wen is your surgery? If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. I can carry around feed bags, or whatever.

I talked to Casey today, and he gave me the directions to the Brownsville show ans wanted me to post them for everyone.

Take 65 to the Park City exit.

If you are coming from the south, you will take a right at the top of the ramp. If you are coming from the north you will take a left at the ramp.

At the stoplight you will take a right onto 31W.

You will take that until you reach highway 101, and you will take another right.

Follow that road until you see a white rooster, and you will turn left into the fairgrounds. Follow until you see all the cars and then park.

Casey Ree and I will both be there. Hope to see others as well!

Yeah, I am still up.... .I wish you could make it. It is just a poultry show, don't think it costs anything to get in, we are not going, we are just showing my son what showing is all about since he is interested in doing it, and working on trying to find a chicken he can show... But he still has time, he is only 5. It is gonna be fun, we are going to be meeting up at the show and then going out for lunch.

You should never apologize for being a ray of sunshine Yolonda. You are exactly right; this has motivated me to look for a new place to live. I should be fine after the surgery; I am scheduled for physical therapy the next day. The surgery will be on the 28th.

With all the dogs, kids and just regular neighborhood noises, my roosters should rarely have been heard. I think I just have miserable person for a neighbor who wants to spread the misery to all he touches.
