Ok, got the tree up.

It's a small tree (4 foot), and pre-lit so all I have to do basically it stick it together and throw on the ornaments. I don't have room for the 7 foot monsters I used to put up. This place is a lot smaller than our old house.

Speaking of ornaments, funny thing I noticed today... I have had these ornaments for a few years, now, but most of them are eggs of some form or another.

I have glass eggs with decorations etched into them, I have cloth eggs, I have woven eggs, etc... Must be some subliminal thing I had going to turn into the chicken lady.

Seriously, I like being the age I am - since I have to count it out each time, obviously the number doesn't matter much to me

At this point in life I am blessed to have my dream farm, right where I want to be. Could things get better? yeah, I suppose, they can always get better, but they can always get worse, too

.

I am 44 years old, living on a farm in the State I wanted to move to (since I was 17 years old), married to a wonderful hubby (who washes my dishes and builds me endless chicken coops) My children are almost all out of school (and therefore, out of my house

) I have chickens galore, donkeys, two really good dogs (I can't stand bad dogs, can't tolerate them) and I am retired - no time clock to punch, no job to run to every day to pull me away from the farm.

now if I can just relax and enjoy it!!

Things I would change -
my health -- I smoke way too much
my butt - could be smaller, but I honestly am happy with myself the way I am. The weight goes back to the health thing, not vanity -- I am WAY beyond the vanity thing (another reason not to wish to be 20 again

)

other than that (and maybe a million bucks so I never have to worry about bills again) I'm good.

I guess that makes me a rare animal, these days.

I can only speak for myself, but I would definitely change my butt also!! And the million $$, that would be nice!

But yeah, I agree. At 20 I think I was pregnant too, so I would have to shoot for 17, or maybe 16, so I could NOT meet that jerk that I was married to!!

Check this out. In chicken behaviors, we were talking about using white petrolatum (vasaline) on roo combs. And a Finnish study was mentioned which recommended headgear instead.

Now that you mention it, baby socks with a draw string will cut down on the amount of picking by the hens at already cold injured tips (only other thing that works is pine tar). Cass used one of our granddaughter's socks, last winter, to accouter the crower (he tolerated it, barely). Don't know how well it would work to prevent frostbite.

Every time I'd go out to the coop and look at the poor guy I kept hearing the old Kinks song Dedicated Follower of Fashion...

In four years the only frostbite was wind related. Our main concern is the radical changes in temp. (can be 60°F at noon and 19° at 8pm with below zero windchill) yoyos.

Ok, cool! I have to go to Campbellsville tomorrow, if you want I could meet you in Columbia somewhere. I have a Dr. appt. @ 1:40 our time, so we will be going through town around 12:30, or coming back through around 4-ish. Dad will have to do some bill running to, so that will keep us in town a while as well. If your son works tomorrow, maybe I could meet you there?

Hmmm, seems to me that the socks would draw more attention to the comb, and the strings that would unravel would be harmful.

I don't think I'd try it, but that is funny to see that poor roo with a sock on his head.
