Kentucky people

Okay, on the goslings I'll take a pair of Pilgrims as they are a heritage breed.

I got the same notice from Ideal as well. They are all straight runs of bantams and ducks that haven't been used to fill other orders.

Someone just posted a Dickey Incubator on craigslist for $350.00. It's located in Bardstown, KY

Wish I had the money and the room!

Wow, that's a really good deal! But I want to stick with the breeds of bantams I have, instead of getting more different breeds. Plus I really don't have the room for 20 more ducks! But thanks for the heads-up! Maybe this spring, if I can't find what I'm looking for, I'll get some and sell the extras.

Yeah you haven't said anything about the homemade hatcher in a while. How's it working? Sounds like it's working pretty good if hubby wants to make more! You'll have to let me know how you rigged it up, so I can make tons of them to take to Sano!
How are your new girls doing? You have just left us hanging about everything!!! I think I remember you saying something about pictures, but I have yet to see any!

I got it to hold temps pretty well, still playing with the humidity - I have had it turned off for a week or so, since I had so much else to do. I just need to play with size of reservoir and if it is closer to the light or to the fan. That seems to make a big difference, too - if it is nearer the fan it is more humid, if nearer the light, then more warmth.

With it turned off totally, the humidity - with the jar I have in it now - reads 58%!!

guess I need a smaller jar, cause as soon as the light goes on, it warms up and gets more humid.

Maybe I'll just try laying a sponge down in there and squirt it every now and then. I also had to put a 40 watt bulb inot it - the 25 watt didn't bring it up quite high enough with the fan and water. Came close, but not there.

I told you would need a 40 watt, but you didn't believe me now did you??? And I noticed the evasion to the pictures....So what's up with that? Did you cook them all already???

Try using a small butter/cottage cheese/chip dip bowl for your water. If you need more humidity than that provides, then put a paper towel like a teepee in it to give it more surface. The air would stir up the water more, so that's probably why the humidity is higher closer to the fan. Or you could always put another vent hole in the top, or wherever you have the other ones. That's what they are for, partly.

OK, so far I have me, Meri, and Chuck that are going in on an order of goslings from metzer. That's

ME:2 PAIR AMERICAN BUFF
MERI:1 PAIR TOULOUSE
CHUCK:1 PAIR PILGRIM

Anyone else??? I will put the order in in February, for delivery in March. Let me know!

yeah you told me, but I already had the 25 watt so I figured to try those. I am actually using a 1/2 pint wide mouth canning jar (one of the fancy ones that is short and wide, not like a jelly jar) The base is about the same as a pint jar, but it is very short.

I haven't taken pics, cause I been busy being lazy today.

I think that Chickaboom and the RIR may be roos

so I guess they'll be dinner one day - the others may all be females, which would be cool - except I'd have three cochin hens and no cochin roo (now that would be a switch, eh?) But I can probably find a large breed cochin roo easier than finding hens.

I'll try to get some pics and post them.

What does the humidity read if there is no water in the bator? It could be that you just don't need any. I would run it for a few days without water in it to see what it does. I would also recommend that you keep the humidity at about 50% during incubation. I have tried doing 'dry' incubation since it got colder, like I was doing this summer, and it is just not working. Plus, wasn't that supposed to be a hatcher anyway? You want the humidity to be at least 65% for the hatch, or am I confused on the purpose?
