Kentucky people

Gonna go check temps and humidity in bator and hatcher then go to bed...Have to get Layne up early in the morning to read his A/R book with him so he can take the test before he forgets what the book is about.
Just moved some very active eggs to the hatcher tonight but the bators are acting up today for some reason, can't keep them stable.
 
It was a pill, but I don't remember what it was called. The dose is only 2.5 mg. He said it's the lowest dose available, and since Cris is so young that's all he can get. But he said it only lasts about 4 hours, so he might end up getting it 2-3 times a day. I would think once would be good, but we'll see. The most problems that he has is at school. Too much stuff going on, too many people, he just can't sit still, keeps screaming out for no reason, won't take a nap (meaning no one else can either), gets up and runs around the room at random. If you are 1-on-1 with him, he's usually pretty good, but in a group setting with a lot of stimuli, he just can't take it. He is either all or nothing. I told the doc the only time he is ever completely still and quiet is when he is sleeping, and even then he is not that still. He is as bad as my other two put together, and they were both put on Ridlin. That was quite a while ago though.

ETA: good luck with your eggs. In my experience, as long as you can keep the humidity under control, the temps are not that much of a factor, unless they get really low or high. I would leave them where they are as long as you can. I have a chick pip in the turner almost every hatch, and they all do ok.

I cant wait until I can sleep in tomorrow. I love my job since I only work 3 or 4 days a week but I hate getting up at 4:30. Which this morning it was more like 5. I was sleeping so good. I cant wait to go spend some time with all of my babies. I just got more silkies last week, so I am up to 9 now. That puts me at about 30 chickens. Which is actually too many if that is possible. My little red mutt hen with my frizzle is sitting right now. I am figuring they should hatch about Christmas. I will have to get a light on her to keep them warm. When I am working day shift I dont get to see them. It is dark when I leave and dark when I get in. I work 12 hour shifts. My 11 year old daughter feeds them when I am working. I just hope she really does. I always warn her that I may go check one night. But she loves the animals too. Just not when it is raining or cold. The one good thing about working is that I spend alot of time on BYC. If I am not working I may only get on the computer 1 time out of 3 days. My 20 month old wont leave me alone long enough. Well I guess this is enough for now. I need to get to work. It dont look like it will be too busy of a day.

LOL I'll do that...He may want to help Meri process his chickens next year after seeing how it's done. I'll show him all the cool stuff...He just didn't want to wait for me the other night, after I told him I made him an account he headed straight up to the pc. So I just let him go and told him to go into this thread and look for Meri and Shelley.

Ok, recipe is prefaced by ---

racoon meat is dark, and the fat is strong flavored, some folks like to neutralize the gamey taste by marinating in vinegar or milk, and they generally parboil the meat before roasting.

the recipe --

Leave a 1/3 inch layer of fat on the racoon. Cover the carcass in in a cloth dipped in fat. Place on a roasting rack on a shallow pan. Do not cover or add water. Bake at 275 - 300 degrees for 3 to 4 hours. Remove the cloth the last half hour. Baste several times with drippings, and dust with flour after each basting for a crisp and crackly crust.


Another book says to boil or pressure cook it, then dry it off and fry it with a seasoned flour coating.

I have never eaten coon, the cookbook I have also has recipes for possum and other roadkill type recipes.

At them moment, I am cooking a cow's tongue mmmmm haven't had that since I was a kid.

Well, my future turkey population is growing, before I even get them! I am supposed to get some slate turkeys from justasnak, in southern IN whenever my money gets here. It originally was a hen and tom. Then she said that one other was looking like a hen. Yippee!! I got a PM from her yesterday, and she now says tha of the 4 she has, there are 3 hens and a tom!!!

Plus she has a black spanish tom. So the deal is, they were $25 each originally. But if I take all 5, they are $20, or $100 for all. So I pay $25 each for the ones I want, and have a tom turkey for free, to do whatever I want with!! If I can get them before Christmas, then I guess he'd be dinner!
