I'm doing pretty good still with laying - even Oprah gives me an egg every other day, lately. Her first one was full of blood again - not sure what is wrong with her insides, but she does that every now and then.

Out of 12 hens who are laying, I get about 6 eggs a day - not too bad. I know some are laying every day, and some not at all. For this time of year, 6 eggs a day is fine with me.

bad day to be chasing pigeons, it was so windy!! My girls all went in without me even asking them to tonight - I think they were ready for someplace without wind. All I had to do was go down there and close the door on them.

They love the new "chicken corral" as I call it - they know the donkeys aren't gonna get into the coop, and they act a lot more relaxed going in and out of the coop - not looking to get stepped on or sideswiped
gig.gif
. Even Jr., who is the biggest freak I've ever seen, was calm and composed tonight when she went inside. Talk about slow to mature - Jr. still isn't laying and I don't know when she will. She is different looking, though

.

See ya tomorrow morning.

eta - I wonder if they aren't laying cause of the move to a new coop, or if they might be eating them? seems weird for first year layers to just drop off so drastically.

I give mine banana peels. I eat the banana and they line up waiting for the peelings. Some times I'll even give them part of the banana.

I am getting 4 eggs a day now. I have 6 other hens who should start laying very soon now. I don't know what I will do with all the extra eggs. Do you need an egg handling license to sell eggs here in Kentucky? I know where I work, my store has an egg handling license.

I need to figure out the avatar thing as well. I have a picture of my roo 'Rusty' which I would like to use but cannot get the picture to download from the camera. I can get about 70 pictures or so and then it quits.

I made Christmas cards at Walgreens using this pic and can't wait to get them in the mail.

I think if you sell them out of your home, you don't have to have a licence (I never asked). I know if you sell at a store you have to have a special permit or something. I figure if the chicken police come looking for me, I'll just ask em how much for a licence - or tell them I'm giving them away (which I practically am, I only charge a buck a dozen). I don't have a sign out (yet, gonna put one out next spring), so basically it is word of mouth, right now.

My sister had that problem with her camera, I don't know if she ever figured out why it did that - it finally got broken, so she just bought a new camera.

Mine love tomatoes, and I give them the ones that go bad before they get used up. I threw the turkey carcass to the layers and I can't even find the bones - no idea where they buried it in there. I need to rake up their bedding anyway

so I'll find it then. Their coop is on a slope, so the bedding in places is a good two foot deep, in other places it is only an inch or two. It evens it out a bit, though, to have it like that.

I'm gonna have to go get Jon soon, he had his party tonight at work, he must be havign fun, cause I haven't heard form him yet.

Dad's hens have slowed way down as well, and they're first year layers. We know we have some egg eaters, but they never eat all of them, just a couple. I think it's because of all the changes. Dad finally made a different run for them, so that probably has freaked them out a bit. But his are layer type chickens, so they should still be laying! Bantams are not necessarily layers, so I think they conserve their energy to keep warm. I don't really care about the eggs right now. I can't eat them, and don't want to set them, so what else would I do with them?

I'm baking tollhouse cookies.....

I was hungry for some snack after I got back from picking Jon up (he called just as I hit send on that last post
gig.gif
) So I figured on fresh cookies and milk. It was either that or make a cup of coffee and break into that box of biscotti I bought today. The coffee would keep me up half the night, so milk and cookies is way better.... yes, that's my justification,

Once Adam gets down here, he and I are gonna make gingerbread men. I got decorations for them and everything

he likes to cook, (and eat) so I know he'll want to help with those.

so tomorrow morning ok Shelley?

I think part of it has to do with this freaky weather we are having, one day warm, the next day cold, then rain, then dry. They don't know what to do. Lay eggs, go into molt, build up their strength. Face it they are confused!
lau.gif
Part of it could be the move to the new coop as you said.

After all animals are creatures of habit and if their routine is upset, then it throws their systems out of wack.

But face it, if they acted like they were supposed to, we wouldn't be interested in them.

Glad to hear all the pigeons made it back safe and sound. As far as the Capuchines go, you might have to do some feather trimming around the heads and their vents to get them to breed. Also you might want to check their toenails and clip the points off them so that when they mount the hen, they don't hurt her.

Yeah that's fine. Like I said, I'm always here. Plus it sounds like we might be getting some rough weather, so if not tomorrow, it'd be hard telling when you could get here!! And that just figures, I just got a buyer on some eggs, and we're supposed to get nasty wet cold weather!
roll.png
Looks like I'll be watching dad's girls like a hawk waiting for them to drop those eggs! I just hope it doesn't get too cold for them in the mail. They will be going to PA?

If they are like my nephews they have hollow legs and are never filled up!
