So, Miss Piggy is still diligently sitting in her nest
lau.gif
. I stuck three eggs from Speckle's coop under her, not sure if she had any others under there. I doubt she did. Two of the eggs were pretty clean (I think the brahma and the white rock I got before) and one was a little muddy, so one of the white rocks I got yesterday.
No idea who the daddies are
gig.gif
but they oughta be good chickens.

I put some fresh hay into the nesting boxes (all but hers, she didn't want to move) and I put some into the blue bin for BC's trip home.

Shelley, did you want that buff jap? If ya do, maybe Cindy will come here first and bring her along to ya. I really don't need anymore banties right now, and she's been inside the whole time, so no chance at all of funkatistic weirdness on her. Then maybe you can get some more buff japs from Cindy when she has some more.

I really need to clean brooders today, I didn't do it yesterday and it stinks in that room. Plus I have stuff everywhere, so it is hard to even walk through there right now. Looks like my "icky outside" day will be spent trying to clean the hatchery room. I may just take the playpen outside to dump everythign out of it into the woods, then bring it back in and put in fresh hay, stick everyone back into it then clean that three cell cage.

It's amazing how much poop such little chickens can produce. And eat, OMG!! that big bag of starter that Cindy brought over is 2/3 gone already. Of course, they throw a lot of it around, too

but most of it gets eaten.

Oh yeah, I have to call Fedex, to see if that chick ever called them to get them come and make a claim on that package.

be back....

eta -- stoopid cow still hasn't even called to file the claim. I emailed her, hopefully I'll hear back.

Awww, that's too bad. Poor Cris, how's he taking it ? (or doesn't he know yet?)

Was it one of the white ones or was it that dark silkie that ya couldn't find?

Yeah, I'll take that chick if you don't want her. I'm most likely gonna get some eggs from Cindy, so it would be a start anyway.
When I totally clean the brooders I take the shavings and everything and dump them in the garden. Give it a bit of fertilizer I guess! Put a plate or something under the feeder, then when they dump it out, they'll at least be able to find it.
So where are you gonna put those babies when they get too big for the house? Are you gonna sticj the cage in one of the coops? I'm hoping Sissy's chicks do start going in the building with her. Then I can use their tractor for those ones on the porch, and get that big box ready for 1) baby ducks due to hatch, or 2) baby chicks that are in the house! Sheez, the ones in the house are about 5 weeks old! If I had a way to 'cool' them off, they could go in that tractor too! I need some more plastic to cover it completely though. I think I saw a tarp in the back of my car that dad put in there, maybe I'll steal it to cover that tractor with? That way I can put a light in there, and they could free range with the other birds after a few days. Save me some $$ on feed!

I'd like to see pics of your del x cornish. I've been trying to figure out how well Mr. Speckles conforms to breed standard (I assume he is hatchery stock). His breast seems pretty deep and wide, though. Sometimes it is hard to tell, however, because he doesn't stand still very long. It isn't as wide as say a cornishX would be, but he is impressive looking to me - but what do I know?

I can't wait to see what babies he'll produce on those white rock hens.

glad ya found your baby

No it was one of the white ones. The dark one was right back in his cage last night, after I had searched for him all day. I told Cris, but he is too young to understand I think. He doesn't really act like it affects him that badly, he is more upset by the dog leaving! Kids are weird! It made me very sad. Don't ever get silkies Meri, they definitely steal your heart! Even though they are ugly (well the white ones he has are kinda cute), they are just the sweetest little birds!

If the other two turn out clean, come spring, do you want them back also? Or don't you want to take a chance? I can understand if ya don't.

Where to put the babies
lau.gif
been thinking on that one.
I was considering putting them (in the playpen) into the cochin cell, and see how that works out. Not a lot of room in there, but the cochins are so laid back and they don't really move around much anyway. I thought once they get used to seeing them in the playpen maybe I can let them out to run around the cell with the cochins (maybe after a week or so). I'd have more trouble with Diva than with Rudy.

Hey, maybe you could put tent stakes on the tractors, to keep them from blowing over. That wind is only gonna get worse this winter (it was really bad last winter).

The problem with them dumping the feeder is that they don't so much "dump" as they climb onto it and send it flying to the four corners of the earth. I stopped BC from doing it by giving her a covered food dish, but I only have two covered dishes, the four mixes from your dad's hens have an open feeder. Once I get things cleaned up in there, I can perhaps put in a covered one for each of them, since I do have two other long ones that might fit the smaller cages, but if I have them in the playpen the problem will be solved.

when I began the "indoor chicken" thing, I figured I'd have maybe two cages going at once, total - boy was I ignorant

I do, however, want to get some of those disposable pie plates to put under the waterers, though.

btw - if ya want cheap tarps, I know a place in Burkesville you can get tarps for like 5 bucks. It's a bit of a drive, but if ya go to Burkesville, you can shop at Freds and the like there, if ya need other stuff. We usually try to go when we need a few things, save us an extra trip (even though, for us, it is only as far as to Columbia, really). The smallest tarp Walmart sells is 10 bucks, I think.

It sounds like it is pouring rain out there.... nope, must be hearing things, but the ice is all melted off the truck, now.

I'm gonna get ready to head out, probably in an hour I'll be on the road...Layne doesn't know we are going yet...He'll be so excited so be ready for the bouncing off the walls...lol...j/k...He's taken his meds today. We should do lunch if you guys have the time? Where's a good place to eat over there? I can go pick up Shelley so you can get the eggs settled in there, and we can meet, or we can both just go pick up Shelley and go from there. Don't matter to me I've got a full tank of gas and I'm not afraid to use it!! After all it's only like 27.00 to fill it back up, awsome huh...

We should go to McDonalds in Russell Springs. It's a bit out of the way, but they have an indoor playplace! That should calm these two maniacs down a bit! Cris isn't too bad by himself, but he is wild when he's around other kids! And if he's around another one that has ADHD??? OMG, that should be interesting!

Fr Chuck ya there?

The girls are now planning what sounds like a fun road trip, lunch egg swapping,.

I was not invited . How about you?

Next time I have a party, guess who is not invited!!!!!!!!!!!!
