Kentucky people

So what all did you get there (besides a cage that I probably would have snagged

)? I got a mini rex doe. She is albino technically, but she is called a ruby eyed white

Cris got a pair of parlor roller/tumbler pigeons. Not sure which they are, we'll have to take them out tomorrow and see how far they roll

Anyway, we were walking along and some guy asked if the little boy would like a pair of pigeons? I said no thanks, he has about 20 pigeons at home already

He says are you sure? They're free! So I went to look. As we are walking to his truck (in the pitch black, thinking maybe it wasn't such a good idea

) he was telling me they don't fly, they just roll on the floor when you let go of them. I asked him all sorts of things, thinking there must be something wrong with them? I've never heard of a pigeon that couldn't fly!! But turns out there is a breed that can't fly, they just roll on the ground. So Cris now has a pair of them. The best part is that they can't fly, so he can play with them and they won't escape!

All I bought was the cage, I really didn't see anything that made me say "I have to have that!" I was sort of looking for ducklings - but no go on those.

Yes I still want the geese, just let me know how much I owe beforehand. HMMM Christmas Goose! And if I win the lotto they will be spared!

Oh wait I wanted Pilgrims, what kind were you getting again? They are historical breed aren't they?
Can't eat them, need them to breed and make some money! I'm gonna need a bigger backyard!

well, if I see anymore I'll buy em for ya.

These actually looked sort of big for cayugas, aren't they a small duck? These ones looked to be the size of your white ones - maybe they were both drakes.

they both had that green sheen to them, though the black/green irridescent.

Nope, they are about the same size as the white ones, just a little bit smaller. The males and females both have the green sheen to them, but the males have green heads (when the sun hits them) and the females don't. One way to tell, especially if they are in a cage, is to poke your finger at them. If it 'quacks' it's a duck, if it does the Donald Duck thing (more like a whisper) it's a drake. You can tell by the tail feathers too, as long as the seller doesn't pull the drake feathers. The people at Sano are good for that. Was it that old man with the red headed wife that had them? That's who I got my other ones from. I'll have to make sure we get there earlier next week. I'm taking most of my roos. I can't get anyone else to take them, and all they are doing is terrorizing the hens and eating. I'll keep enough to watch out for the hens, but most of them are going. I only have like 10 hens, maybe, so I don't need too many roos.

I don't think they have the new hatch dates up yet, but their site says their first hatches are March/April, so they would be a while. I'm thinking it is usually the first of March going by their info on the site, but I'm not sure.

I am getting 2 pair of the american buffs. Those are different, so they should sell pretty good. I was thinking of getting two different breeds, but my luck they would mix themselves up, and then I'd have a bunch of mutts

yeah, that would really stink!!

So far he's been pretty good with them. He wants to hold them all the time, and the poor things are scared to death of him! The female can fly a little, but she mostly just flaps her wings. So Cris gets a good beating if he doesn't hold onto her right! That is the one he likes the most too. He was carrying her all over the place at the sale!

Poor Lily is laying at my feet pouting cause Adam didn't come back with me.

I don't know who had them, didn't see anyone near them.

I am about set with my chickens for now, I think - as soon as get rid of the spitz boys and loretta, I'll have just what I planned to keep.

Then I get to swap everyone around til I'm happy with the mix.

I still need to build my pens, but after I get rid of those red pyles I'll be done with the ones I don't want. Except for the babies, but there are more pullets than roos in them, so I'm going to try to wait till the spring sale in Liberty, maybe I can get more for them.

I had one little pullet yesterday when I was closing them up, she was so cute!! I ran everyone into the tractor, or so I thought, and went to close the door. This little pullet comes running up 'peep peep peep'ing at me!! Like she saw me closing up and was saying 'wait for meeeeee!!!!'

ETA: And except for Gretta the game hen. If I do keep her, she will be a free ranger with the cochin mixes and Charlie. Dad won't put his three in with his other chickens, so they'll still be outside. Gretta usually gets along with Charlie pretty well, and if he is the only roo running around I'd imagine she would stay with him. So I might just keep her.

I had thought about that, too. That is why I went with the toulouse. I figured they are a nice all purpose type of goose, and I can breed them to sell. Not fancy, but at least not white. I like the buffs, too, but I figure if nothing else, I'll buy some babies off ya when yours begin hatching eggs.
