Did She say when the chick days is? I think dad got his last year in January, least that's what he says. Not like I need standard sized chicks, but hey, if they're free, I can take and sell them at Sano!

I always buy chick starter anyway. I think I might actually just start getting flock raiser. It is okay to use for chicks, ducks, quail, basically everything except turkeys, from hatch to 16 weeks or so, and I believe it's cheaper. Plus, if I get just one kind, I can get more bags at once and just dump it all in the barrel, instead of keeping it in bags. I think those barrels will hold 3 bags loose, as opposed to 2 bags in the bag. It would save me from having to go to the feed store every week!

I think Chick Days is mid march - I know last year the chicks came in on March 13th (cause I was waiting at the feedstore for her to get back from the post office

If you look on Columbia Magazine, on the Day & Day ad (under Classifieds) it'll post it when Chick Days is (when it gets closer, it doesn't say anything about it right now.)

eta - the ducklings usually come in earlier than the chicks do, I believe. I know they did last year.

TSC has Chick Days, but it isn't the same as our local feedstore - at the local feedstore they give you 5 free chicks if you buy a bag of chick starter. Last year I got the 5 free, then I bought 5 more for a dollar each. Unfortunately, only three of them turned out to be pullets

The only problem is that they only order the dual purpose birds. That's why I said I could always sell mine, since I don't keep large fowl. Unless I get some EE, I might keep those. I wish there were a way to tell what sex the little boogers were!

I don't think I'm going to Sano this friday - I only have three birds to sell, so I'll wait til I can take the ducklings along, too.

You could take them, just put them in a box to keep them warm. If you have one of those heat wraps that you put in the microwave, you could put that underneath....I need my brooders!

To see what chickens they'll have, check out Mt. Healthy Hatchery - that is who they order from.

Oh that's why!! They don't even have bantams. They need to change hatcheries

Yeah, but my neighbor wants to pick out two of the ducklings (or rather, have his boys each pick one) so I have to wait on him. I did offer the ducklings to him first. If he shows up tomorrow morning, I might go, if I could take the ducks along too.

I am going to have to lock that splash pair of calls up for awhile. Poor drake is being beaten up on too badly, and I don't want him hurt (for now he just looks bad, he isn't injured). I hate to lock them up, though, poor babies, they love to go outside.

If it doesn't resolve itself, I may have to sell that pair just to keep the drake safe

Yeah, I wish they'd order from someone with more variety, too.

You could always lock up the other drake, until that one gets back to snuff. Then you could still spoil the other one. Or lock them all up, and only let them free range seperately. You know, one day the pair, next day the trio. They wouldn't be too happy, but at least that way you wouldn't have to keep one or the other locked up all the time.

Well, they seem to be pretty cheap, so that's probably why Day & Day uses them. Especially since most of the chicks are given away anyway.
