Two of the ducklings that I got have crests - a drake and a hen (duck?) but I don't want the crested ones, so I'm selling those two - along with a few others - 21 ducklings is too many

The littler ones would be a problem, probably, but the olive egger might do ok with bigger chickens. The younger ones you might want to put in a pen by themselves (or with the olive egger, if she'll be nice) for a little while yet.

The olive egger is a big breed - she is Welsumer roo over an Easter Egger hen.

Meri, that fluff butt is so cute, call it Streaky, would be really neat if it retained that color pattern as it grows up.

They are so cute when they are that small! But my 7 girls still come to me when I go out to feed and water them.

I have another one, this one is pure white.

I'll check tomorrow morning for any more of them.
Not sure what to name these ones, but the barred rock girl I have with the twisted toe I'm calling Gump.

Well, the other eggs in the incubator weren't supposed to start hatching until wednesday, but I have three that pipped, zipped and hatched within a half hour - all at the same time. Looks like one George baby and two Mr. Speckles babies.

good thing I have another brooder here - it's a smaller one, but it'll do for now.

I hope once Jr.s babies are all hatched and a day or two old that I can put them all into the same brooder and make it easier on myself.

I purchased some bantam barred rock eggs from someone in Washington state who was selling their small prize winning flock and were putting up the eggs for sale in the mean time. No one seemed to be interested so at the last minute I bid for them and got them.

Well, 8 Bantam eggs would be really small in my bator so I needed more eggs to take up some of the space. Soo... I ordered some regular Barred rocks from the same guy I got the other 3 eggs from eight weeks ago.

I've pulled my eggs off the turner and hope they hatch on the 26th. My schedule at work has changed and now I work seven 10 hour days, then the following Wednesday. Which turns out to be hatch day. So I will be at work while they hatch out. Bummer.

I took my 8 week olds over and put them with my 15 week old Del X Cornish, and there was absolutely no problems. These Del x Cornish are really laid back. Perhaps my fear of Pure Cornish roos is unfounded. "Fear" being my reluctance at owning and dealing with mean aggressive roos.

Speaking of roos... One of the Del x Cornish roos is trying to crow. It is a really deep, hoarse, raspy, and short crow. One of the 8 week old roos was trying to crow the other day. At first I thought someone had picked on it and it was protesting since the "crow" was a single syllable, high pitched "aaaaaah". But as I watched I realized that it was one of his first attempts at crowing.

I've noticed that the yokes in my hen's eggs are turning yellow instead of the normal orangish tint. I think this is because I haven't let them out since December and they haven't been getting enough greens. I buy some greens from MiJers and any other grocery which will sell them to me. but I haven't in a while. Need to put that on my to do list.

While I haven't been on in a couple of weeks I have been following you guys. Just thought I'd let you know what has been happening chicken-wise.

Seven 10 hour days -- in a row? that would suck.

Well, the rest of Jr.s eggs she had out there were no good. She left the nest this morning when she heard me come out, and I figured she was just gonna eat and poo. So I went to check on any more babies hatched, and there weren't any. I did the chores, then went back, cause she still hadn't gone back to her nest and I grabbed the eggs to bring inside to hatch in the bator, but when I candled them, three had died really late in development, and the others were at various stages of dead or not fertile.

She did really good for her first time, sitting on them religiously, so all I can figure is that it was just too darn cold out there. Well, I have four of hers - the two she hatched and two I hatched - although the one she hatched doesn't look that strong, and it might not make it. That is the last one that hatched last night under her - it is pure white.

But, I also have the three that hatched in the bator last night (not Jr.s) and I have more due to hatch today and tomorrow in there - those three were actually two days early, so I was surprized they popped out so fast. Two of those look to be pure white, also, but may get some blackness on them as they get older. The other one looks just like the little brown and black one that was Jr.s first egg that hatched - only bigger.

Poor Jr. is out running around trying to get back into the flock - and everyone keeps picking at her. She'll work it out, she's stubborn - and tough.

Well, gonna go read and catch up.
