Let me know if you can talk her into getting turkeys. I am wanting to get some in the spring, trying to find someone willing to go in on an order for them. I can get some from the feed store, but the poults I want cost almost $9 a piece, straight from the hatchery, and you know the feed store will add some to it for it going through them. All the hatcheries I've checked said you need to order at least 15, and I only want a pair for breeding, and a couple for eating next year

So just let me know.

If anyone else wants to go in on an order of turkey poults in March-April, just let me know!!

Chiknmama-- Dad only has 3 or 4 SLW hens, the ones that are laying the most are the RIR. The big white ones are definitely laying, and their eggs are lighter brown than the RIR's, their eggs are so brown they look like they are a dark pink color. So I should be able to make sure they are not RIR, but as far as knowing they are definitely SLW, it will be hard to say. But like I said before, you could always use the ones you don't want to put in your freezer

...Also, I wouldn't put standard and bantam cochins in the same pen. Maybe while the standards are still small, but once they got big, you would have an in-between size. Plus if any were roos, they would break down your bantam hens

I might be ready for a few turkey in the spring. I'll let ya know when it gets closer.

Yeah, I figure any extras I have that I don't want I can either butcher or sell at the auction (if anyone else besides me is silly enough to brood babies this time of year).

Spazz has decided that she likes hubby better than me, or at least she likes him while he's working and digging holes.

Which is funny, because other than a laugh every now and then, he could care less about the chickens. He's been out back working on the corral (digging holes and laying board) and she has been hanging out with him - "helping"

He came up for a break earlier and says to me "That diamond looking chicken keeps jumping in my holes"

- I told him she was looking for worms and such, and he said "Yeah, but she keeps filling them back up". Poor guy, I guess he just doesn't know how strong an attraction he holds for chicken women.

Bwahahahaha-

cthrash1: It looks like maybe she went out for her anniversary after all...she is usually on by now!!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MERI!! and your hubby, sorry forgot his name!

Yeah maybe she did...You're right she'd be on about now cause I've been telling ya'll goodnight about this time...Fall break is over so have to go to bed earlier to be able to get Layne up in the mornings. DH isn't an early bird so it's up to me. Well, if you see her tell her I said hey...Goodnight, I'll see ya'll tomorrow. Hope you sell all your babies.

Oh yeah those eggs I bought from a fellow BYCer that Meri's going to brood, she has also put in some surprise eggs for me...So I have Silkies, Cochin Bantams, and who knows what else. Bought 10 and was sent 24 so this is going to be fun...I LOVE surprises.

Have a great evening, Cindy

Yeah, my little one had fall break last week also. I am SO glad it is finally over!!! How old is Layne??

Wow, wish I could get a deal like that!! I bought 12 quail eggs and got 18, and most of them were scrambled by the P.O.

Oh well, that's the chance you take. At least I have 4 for sure that are developing!
Yeah I hope I sell the little boogers too. They are real cute, but I really want to get into pure breeds. I will probably use some of my hens for the eggs, for food or whatnot, but I probably won't set anymore eggs from them, except the blue splash. There aren't any other people in this area that have them, from what I've been told.

Good night, and talk to ya tomorrow...

I only have a BTB Dutch and 2 Porcelain Dutches. I never saw a splash Dutch until you posted the pics.

ETA: Layne is 10, He's really something else too a super kid. And a lot of fun... We get excited when he comes home from school with no checks for the day. DH has started giving him a dollar every day he has no checks. Yesterday he got 6 but I also forgot to give him his ADHD med. Today will be better. When he was a toddler til he was in Kindergarten I would take nerve meds because I didn't want him on med and to be labeled, well Dr talked me into starting him on meds and it was a very wise decision. He wouldn't be as far along as he is now...He is one of his Drs worse cases, always has to have highest dose for his weight/age when we have to change meds. The poor thing just can't stay focussed otherwise and he also is Dyslexic on top of that. He is super smart though just has to be allowed to verbally give open response answers can't put his thoughts on paper...Too much stress trying to write as he is thinking.

Seems like that's how it is for the really bright ones. Just remember, Einstein had incredibly serious behavior problems and look how bright he was. I think what alot of behaviorists don't understand is that people learn and cope in so many different ways. I've always been miserable when it comes to math but did really well with Geometry since it uses a different part of the mind than math. I'm glad to see you guys taking such a proactive approach to his situation, people are usually inclined to give up way too fast when it comes to things like that.

We want him to have every advantage available to him...What really bothers me though is when we had him evaluated for the section 504 plan(they said he is too smart for special ed...no prob on this though) they totally ignored his Dyslexia and centered on his ADHD...What they don't understand is his actual learning disability is through his Dyslexia not the ADHD(this is only his attention span and hyperness), but luckily most of his accommodations we agreed on were also listed on his Dyslexia assessment(done someplace else, schools don't do this assessment). The only thing me and his teacher couldn't agree on was for him to present his open response part of his tests orally...She thinks he needs to write as much as possible...She doesn't understand he can't think and write at the same time. I'm just glad he was finally awarded some accommodations...Took 3 yrs to convince them he needed help.

How'd Coco do last night? Has he wore maggie out yet? Or yet, has he wore you guys out yet...lol?

Coco was so much better yesterday, I think he's getting used to his surroundings. Poor Maggie was just laying there when I got home which is really unusual. Christina said she'd been playing with him all day and was completely drained. She left the gate open by accident and they both took off around the school and up the hill. Luckily, he stays really close with Maggie and if she travels, she doesn't travel far. They were only out for about 15 minutes so it wasn't too bad. We tried a little benadryl and the crate and Coco was a happy camper last night. There wasn't a peep out of him.

I can totally relate with the learning disabilities. I would've probably been better off with some meds and skipped all the Child psych stuff. Just make sure you keep his confidence up, it's so easy for a little kid to be alienated at school when they have it a little different than everyone else. As personable as he is, I'm sure he's going to get really far in life. That ADHD diagnosis is the cure-all for schools at the moment, in a few years it'll be something totally different. Just remember to take what the Psych people say with a grain of salt, it's all really just a subjective science. I took it in college and it was nothing but theory. When I was little one of them said I needed glasses so I could focus better.
