Cool, thanks for the input. I didn't even think about the breeding thing, LOL. I had to get rid of Marley because he was so big he couldn't even breed his own hens. Poor guy.
Well, his loss is George's gain
I guess whichever size I have more of will get the main coop, and the large cochins can have a cell and free range during the day. Ya know what? I need more coops
Let's see, there are spitzs, oegb, banty cochins, large cochins, my egg chickens, the japs.... I'm at least two coops short
Although, hubby wants to build me some of the smaller raised coops for breeding the oegb banties. I can keep em in there for breeding, then turn them out to mingle once I know I got some pure colored bred eggs out of them.
I had something try to dig into the chicken run night before last - so Last night I had to herd everyone inside to lock em up. I didn't want anything to get into the run (because from there they can get into the coop if the chicken door is open.)
I have about 6 banties who like to sleep out in the run on the perch out there - Stevie and his two girls, Loretta and Boo and another hen. They weren't pleased about going inside last night. Whatever it was didn't try last night, but I'm keeping an eye on it. Whatever it was is not a "digger" animal - he didn't do very well, but just the fact that it tried scared me. Probably that dang coon still lurking around.
Well, better go check the chickens, I hear a ruckus....
