Cool, thanks for the input. I didn't even think about the breeding thing, LOL. I had to get rid of Marley because he was so big he couldn't even breed his own hens. Poor guy.
Well, his loss is George's gain

I guess whichever size I have more of will get the main coop, and the large cochins can have a cell and free range during the day. Ya know what? I need more coops

Let's see, there are spitzs, oegb, banty cochins, large cochins, my egg chickens, the japs.... I'm at least two coops short

Although, hubby wants to build me some of the smaller raised coops for breeding the oegb banties. I can keep em in there for breeding, then turn them out to mingle once I know I got some pure colored bred eggs out of them.

I had something try to dig into the chicken run night before last - so Last night I had to herd everyone inside to lock em up. I didn't want anything to get into the run (because from there they can get into the coop if the chicken door is open.)

I have about 6 banties who like to sleep out in the run on the perch out there - Stevie and his two girls, Loretta and Boo and another hen. They weren't pleased about going inside last night. Whatever it was didn't try last night, but I'm keeping an eye on it. Whatever it was is not a "digger" animal - he didn't do very well, but just the fact that it tried scared me. Probably that dang coon still lurking around.

Well, better go check the chickens, I hear a ruckus....

Oh, I forgot to ask, does Coco have any particular sleeping arrangements he's used to? The poor guy didn't seem too happy with the big dog bed we gave him last night. You guys are right about being enablers. I never thought I'd be so excited about a rooster. Might have to try turkeys next if I can convince Christina:)

And so it begins... (....key the dark spooky music....)

Before ya know it you, too, will be dealing chickens to your friends and total strangers; Sending away for those free hatchery catalogs to pour over when the winter blahs hit ya; buying an incubator; branching out into new and different looking chickens;

Yes :::rubbing hands together in a sinister manner:::: we have you now - you will be assimilated.

Muahahahahahaaaaaa

They ship the 20th, so I'll be coming to get some eggs from you, Shelley, about that time. googled egg color - says wyandotte eggs are brown, I'll just take a mix of eggs to hatch, maybe a dozen of each color, that way I know I'll have some slw.

I really got hooked on the fancy breeds when I saw those spitz's you have. That's one good looking hen there. I don't know if I'll ever get to the point of incubators, I don't see myself taking on that kind of volume, we're having a tough time giving away the eggs we get now!

Is he just on a dogbed or is he in a kennel like the one we brought him in? He slept in his kennel at night on a blanket because back in the Summer he was chewing up every dogbed we'd put in his kennel. We also covered his kennel with another blanket until we got the cover that is on it...Then we just covered the front of it. He may have been a bit unsure too because it doesn't smell like his regular bed.

LOL some quotes from Meri in the recent past....

"I don't want banties - they are just toys."
"What would I want Cochins for, they are So Foofy!!"
"Fancy chickens? Pfffttt =- who needs em?"
"I just want a few chickens for eggs."
"Honey, that Coop sure is huge, I don't think I'll need that much space. I shouldn't ever need another coop as long as we live here."
"Ok, I'm done buying chickens, now, I have more than enough as it is."
"I won't ever need an incubator - too much trouble. I'll just buy what chickens I need."

Never say never

The kennel thing explains it. He was up and pacing alot throughout the night, he must be used to being confined. Maggie didn't know what to think of it, she'd get up with him sometimes to see what was going on. We've got a big kennel that we'll try out with him.

Get out of my head!!! I was kicking around the idea of trying out some bob whites and releasing them on the property and down in Breathitt Co. But I've heard they'll just die if they're released....What am I saying, no more birds....

I'm in trouble!
