I just finished a long work week and have a couple of days off and thought I'd let everyone know I am still alive. I went to the Frankfort meet the last Saturday in April, but got there at noon and couldn't find anyone. I'll have to get there early next month.

Welcome ShadowlandsFarm. I have 9 Barred rock roos and 2 hens all hatched from the same order of eggs off ebay. They will be 10 weeks old on Thursday. Would you like to have an extra roo or seven ?

I have too many to eat myself.

Actually, I have way too many projects going on and need to rid myself of some of these projects, so I do need to get rid of my Barred Rocks.

I need to process the last three of my Cornish X's this week as they turn 8 weeks old on Wednesday. One of them has a weak single syllable crow.

I have neighbors and friends who wanted a pet chicken so I bought some red silkies and hatched them out and am giving them away to my neighbors. It helps keep away any complaints about roosters crowing.

I bought two New Hampshire pullets at a feed store in Indiana when I went to visit my brother and they have turned out to be something else so I don't really need them either. I think they might be Production Reds. I am still up in the air about getting rid of them or if I can use them in one of my projects.

The Production Reds are friendly, as opposed to the pure bred Dark Cornish which are hyper skittish. I don't really care for unfriendly chickens, but I committed myself to a project and should keep them.

Anyway, I'm up to 10 eggs a day and only eat about 2. Such is life in the big city.

I also built a new feeder out of scrap 2 x 6 and pressed board. It seems to work okay. Holds a lot of feed which cuts down on my work load. I may have to build more. It was certainly much cheaper than the store bought ones.

I also messed around with some spare PVC pipe and ended up spending $12 on parts for a small feeder. It wasn't worth the cost but it was fun designing and building and it seems to work well.

Yeah, I love the farm fresh eggs - especially if you've been eating the store bought ones for awhile

Now that ought to convince him about the three or four barred rocks - shoot they don't take up much room

Welcome to BYC!! I saw your sig line. Our BR roo was really sweet too. He was my 18 yo daughters roo, from a bunch of packing peanuts in our very first chick order. He impressioned himself on her and his attachment just kept growing. She would set him in her lap and scratch his back between his wings and he would just melt and go to sleep on her. Got picks one day, he slept for probably about 30-40 minutes in her lap, got so heavy she had to shift him and he went back to sleep. She'd either lay him on his side or hang his feet between her legs and his head would hang over her knees. He was hilarious. We really miss him a lot.

well I finally got some chickens I found a boy that was raising them for ffa and had to many. I got a pair of golden comets and 3 pellets from him. we are getting a few turkeys in a couple of weeks I am so excited my hen(princess) my little girl named her is still not laying though. I think she is just stressed from the move. any way my daughter named the pellets too she named them barbie, dora, and hank she named my roo dinasour she is so silly!!

Congratulations on the new chickens and good luck with them!

My roo (just had to rehome him due to flogging issues) was named Dino Raptor because he was like some sort of hilarious prehistoric creature. I've been saving eggs, I can't wait to see what his babies look like.
