I've got a second broody hen. Don't know how many eggs she has under her but I shoved a few extra under just to make it worth her while.
My roos are starting to bother the hens too much so I put three into prison. After the initial dust and feather confrontation it seems that things have settled down a bit.
My Delcorns (Delaware hens x cornish roo) are laying small eggs even after 8 weeks. They are so disappointing yet so friendly. The roos are big and impressive looking. I think I will cross one of the Delcorn roos with some cornish hens when they get big enough just to see what I get.
I won some Delaware
ebay eggs and will be hatching them out for my nephew. I've been watching these ebayers for over a year now and like what people are saying about them.
Mojo, I know what you mean about having a good knife. Good luck in finding a good knife. let me know where you find it.
I had one from Chicago Cuttlery that I liked to use but it has come up missing so I went to
Wal-mart and Meijers and neither store carries it anymore. I also went to Target, and a few other stores. Seems that everyone is reducing their inventories and only carring the basic cheap stuff. I want a high carbon, stiff, 8", straight blade, big handle, stainless steel knife. One that is well balanced and "feels good in my hand". ( just the handle part
)
Some things I'm particular about. When I was a carpenter I bought a cheap hammer until I could find a good one. It took several weeks before I found a good one that fit my hand, had good balance, and didn't sing to me. There is something about the tacticle interface and functionality of tools that is very important to me. It helps that it looks good as well but that is only third in importance.
I also looked in a sporting goods place. They had a lot of macho knives, survival knives, and skinning knifes but not a good chicken killing knife. Don't knife makers raise chickens any more?
Anyway, sorry about the rant. Looove my tools.
Hope you'll have a good Memorial day.
