As long as you have seen your babies eat your rabbit feed and drink water, they are already plenty old enough to wean. Our Checkered Giants tend to wean off at 3 to 4 weeks but my dwarfs are a little slower.

I've got a second broody hen. Don't know how many eggs she has under her but I shoved a few extra under just to make it worth her while.

My roos are starting to bother the hens too much so I put three into prison. After the initial dust and feather confrontation it seems that things have settled down a bit.

My Delcorns (Delaware hens x cornish roo) are laying small eggs even after 8 weeks. They are so disappointing yet so friendly. The roos are big and impressive looking. I think I will cross one of the Delcorn roos with some cornish hens when they get big enough just to see what I get.

I won some Delaware ebay eggs and will be hatching them out for my nephew. I've been watching these ebayers for over a year now and like what people are saying about them.

Mojo, I know what you mean about having a good knife. Good luck in finding a good knife. let me know where you find it.

I had one from Chicago Cuttlery that I liked to use but it has come up missing so I went to Wal-mart and Meijers and neither store carries it anymore. I also went to Target, and a few other stores. Seems that everyone is reducing their inventories and only carring the basic cheap stuff. I want a high carbon, stiff, 8", straight blade, big handle, stainless steel knife. One that is well balanced and "feels good in my hand". ( just the handle part

)

Some things I'm particular about. When I was a carpenter I bought a cheap hammer until I could find a good one. It took several weeks before I found a good one that fit my hand, had good balance, and didn't sing to me. There is something about the tacticle interface and functionality of tools that is very important to me. It helps that it looks good as well but that is only third in importance.

I also looked in a sporting goods place. They had a lot of macho knives, survival knives, and skinning knifes but not a good chicken killing knife. Don't knife makers raise chickens any more?

Anyway, sorry about the rant. Looove my tools.

Hope you'll have a good Memorial day.

The only silkies we have available are babies, so it's hard to say what sex they are. But you are welcome to come check them out if you like?

My @#$#@ ameraucanas are a rip-off!!

I had the one obviously naked neck chick hatch from them. Today, I was looking at them more closely, and it looks like there are at least 2 more that are from the naked neck frizzles. I paid a lot of money for those eggs, and I didn't get what I paid for. I'm thinking of just selling all the chicks and starting over. Plus my one rooster I hatched this past winter is supposed to be black, but he has red feathers on his back

What a waste....

Shelley,

Sounds like another reason for a Road Trip! Once the silkie babies hatch and I know what they are for sure, I'll let you know about what I have. I know some will be the Dark Partridge color, but I'm not sure what the others will look like.

Here is what I have so far:

1 Pair Dark Partridge (hen is broody)
3 Blue Splash
2 Blacks
1 Buff
1 Dark grey

I also have 2 Porcelain D'Uccles

So far all appear to be pullets. Got to put together some more nest boxes.

I added another 5'W x 16'L x 5'H section to the outside of my run yesterday to give them all more room. And my baby bantam has finally learned to go up the ramp now with his momma and Aunties.
No more chasing the little bugger at night to put him up.

Thanks Heeler, I plan on building their new homes this week and seperating and seeing how they do away from Momma. Their daddy is a black Rex and momma is a Brown Rex. There are two brown babies and two black babies. Don't know what sex they are yet.

Well, I've had a productive day - even though I didn't get to my house cleaning

I sold a dozen hens, two call ducks and found a nice home for Sassy (the horse). We're going to go deliver her tomorrow.

For those who don't know, Sassy is an older Arabian mare and has arthritis, so really isn't good for riding - but she is a big baby and loves to be petted and scratched and given treats - we found the perfect place for her - A nice lady who can't ride but wants a pretty horse to spoil and play with.

They came over to meet Sass and fell in love with her. They may be interested in buying Mojo and Juju, also, when they get more pasture fenced in. So it's a road trip to Eubank for me tomorrow.

They also loved the (black) Swedish ducks - so they want me to bring them two of the black call duck babies tomorrow, too. Same pattern in a smaller size

Oh, and she has chickens

so I get to see her chickens, too.

So... I'm just chillin' for the rest of the evening.

I didn't know you guys were selling her? Was this a 'spur of the moment' thing, or had you planned on it? It's good that she has a good home though, Hopefully she'll be spoiled rotten!!

ETA: You can't sell Mojo!! You'll have to change your name again!!

Not selling, we're giving her to them for the cost of gas money to get her there and drive home. We've been discussing what to do with Sassy for a couple of weeks, now.

She really isn't worth anything to anyone who wants a horse to ride, and we're just happy she'll be spoiled rotten and loved up regularly.

They had an ad on Craigslist looking for a free horse to just play with - so we called.

We need to downsize the non-paying critters here

and Sassy, unfortunately is one of those.

Oh, that's great!! I know when I was younger, my neighbor's had bought a horse that had lived with other animals, goats, donkeys, chickens, and what-not. The horse didn't have any other horses around at its first home. So the poor thing didn't know what to do with the other horse these people had. We ended up getting some goats, and that poor horse was going nuts, it was so excited!! They get so attached to their animal friends! I just hope the jenny is nice to Sassy!! I'm sure there will be a pecking order thing at first, but let's just hope that's all there is to it!
