Kentucky people

My neighbors are probably gonna hate me tomorrow, I have to keep Sloopy and a little girl duck locked up (so I can take them to Sano). I know they're (the ducks) gonna complain all day long.

I may just put them in the coop with the other baby ducks - as long as they behave and don't terrorize everyone else in the coop.

usually I feed the ducks and geese at night when they go in (otherwise the chickens eat it all during the day) and tonight I had to hunt down DD and Little Joe, so I forgot to have the food ready for them - Ethel stood at the gate and complained the entire time until I went to get her food

She is so funny.

I let my baby goose and 'her' baby duck buddies out of their pen yesterday, it was so funny! If I would get out of sight of the gosling, 'she' would come chasing and 'weep-weep'ing until 'she' found me. Evidently the ducklings think the goose is their leader, as they were following the gosling all over. It was so cute. I walked in the front of the house and asked some family members if they had met my youngest yet

It thinks I'm its mama, so I guess it is my 'kid'!!

They are heart tugging, aren't they?

All Ethel has to do is come and start chatting with me and she has my full attention. Lucy cries and cries if she loses sight of Ethel - but Fred can wander off from both of them and they are fine without him.

Fred and Ethel both let me pet them today - I just stooped down and started scratching their chests and petting their backs - they were just standing there eating it up - spoiled babies. Usually it's just Ethel who'll let me touch her, and then only if it's her idea first.

Mine (no name decided on yet), will come right to me, if I'm by myself. I had to put them back in the pen yesterday cause Cris had noticed that they were out. He wouldn't leave those poor babies alone for nothing! And when I was showing the babies to some of our company, the goosy wouldn't come up to me. She would stand on the other side of the pen and talk to me, but I'd have to go in a pick her up. She is very afraid of men, my dad's pastor tried to pet her when I was holding her, and she just about jumped out of my hands!

I'll have to fix that, I'm sure dad wouldn't let me keep her if she starts going after him.

I only have 2 of the 6 embden eggs I received from the swap developing, I sure hope both of them hatch! If not, I at least hope that the one that does is the opposite sex of the one I have, so I don't have any squabbling. Unless they are both females, that would be all right. I doubt I'll be keeping the embdens, I really don't like big white geese! I might get an older pair from holderreads this fall, they aren't much more than day-olds, and I wouldn't have to wait for them to be as big as the one I have. Maybe by then, I'll know what my one is

I'm trying to socialize my three - every time someone comes over I try to get them to come over and at least eat grass near us, and stay calm. I don't want them to turn into the monsters that Benny and Joon were.

They've been really good so far - as long as the newcomers don't try to reach for them, they're ok. When Sandi stopped by the other day they came over and sat down to eat grass and nibble my toe. They ignore other people (for the most part) but as long as they are in the same space without being aggressive, I'm happy.

I don't push it on them, or push them on other people, but I do try to encourage them to hang out when other folks show up.

Sam's girlfriend came by today for the first time - she was afraid of the chickens and the geese both - I didn't tell her that I'M the scary one of the bunch - I don't think she's quite ready for that yet

Well, I ought to be getting to bed - got chicken wrangling to do tomorrow.

The mexican folks are gonna be looking for me
lau.gif
they like the "cheap chickens" - hate to tell them tomorrow that most of the cheap ones are gone. I'm taking some straight run 2 mo. old columbian rocks that will be cheaper (but not cheap), but otherwise I have some point of lay pullets I'm putting with roos to sell as groups.

They asked us to make sure we are coming this week (last week they bought 7 chickens from me). They were bummed that I missed for Sam's graduation. At least this time they came prepared with some cages

I sold off a buttload of roos for cheap - but I have cut the roo population down nicely and now have more pullets than roos (yay!!).

so, I'm off to bed - see ya tomorrow if ya get a chance to go out there.

Not sure yet if I'll be there, I won't have anything to take except those quail males I had last week. I didn't get a chance to catch my drakes. I am planning on cutting the drake population down to 1 per breed, so I have 2 pekin and 2 rouens that I don't need. But I have to catch them first. Maybe I'll get me a net, that would help. I'm thinking of letting my older pekin ducks go as well. Counting the babies up by the building, I have 3 youngsters and 2 old-sters

The older ones have hidden their nest and I can't find it anywhere. The younger one that I hatched this winter has just started laying, I think we found 2 eggs so far. But I don't need all these ducks, and if I got rid of 2 pair pekins and 2 rouen drakes, that would leave me with a trio of cayugas, a quad of rouens and a quad of pekins, more than enough. Plus I'm going to make pens for them, and lock them up for a while. I figure maybe that way they'll stick with their own 'groups'. I don't want to get rid of any, but I don't want to have them inter-breeding all the time. I figure if I keep them locked up for a while with certain girls, they'll eventually stick with those girls. Plus there won't be as much of a competition, going from 7 drakes to 3.

But like I said, I still need to catch them. Any chance you'd come and do some duck wrangling??

Mojo Chick'n :

Actually, Sydney's would be good, because my chickens go everywhere (and the ducks and geese, too - they've decided they like to hang out at the bottom of the steps and poop there

)

Sydney has this great pasture that hers stay in... usually

We could possibly have a poo free meal

Poo free meal?? Nitro leaves his share of "land mines" in the yard..but maybe I can work on that.
I vote for July..I went to an orthop[edist yesterday who seems to think she has found the source of my hip pain. Monday I have to go for an ultrasound since nothing showed up on an MRI. I'm too old to be pregnant..isn't that what ultra sounds are for..lol!!

So..with any luck I will be pain free by then. Course I will have 11 months of house cleaning to catch up on...grrr!
I agree that the kids would probably be bored to tears..but hubby's
are certainly welcome..since I don't have one I could sure use the free entertainment..lol!!

I'll handle the meat, steaks, ribs, maybe some burgers, and a big bowl of potato salad. But if everyone can bring a dish that would be great.

Yes Shelley..you are also most welcome...in fact..anyone in the area who is willing to make the drive here is welcome to come, but at some point I will need an approximate head count.

I should be ready to pick a date soon after I find out what the doctor has in store for me...looking forward to a big bash..BYOB

(BYOB..bring your own bottle..lol!!)

Well I dont know if I am going to Sano or not. The hubby threw him a little fit last night that I went to the barn every night when I got home. He wanted to know what time I got off tonight. He does whatever he wants but thinks I should be in the house with our 2 yr old.
But Joe Joe (my partner in crime) will be there with another load of his junk. And some chicks. I told him we really needed to thin out some. So I picked out about 20 6 week olds and about 15 4 month old barred rock straight run. What is the going price on 6 week and 4 month olds right now?? I thought maybe $5 and $8 but dont know.
