Kentucky people

Good that you were able to find it. I hope you have good luck with selling them.

Meri~~You should really consider having a lot of birds to take to Liberty Amish auction this fall, you have no idea how much things sell for there! I sold 14 bantam chickens there this spring, most of them were mixed. I made just under $100 on them, not bad for birds I'd normally sell for $5 a piece. I'm going to try and build up my quail flock before then, so I can sell some of them there. I don't ever see quail there that much, but every time I go to Sano with them, I almost can't get parked before they sell. I imagine they would sell pretty good, too bad the chukars won't be laying then. They might be, but I doubt it, it will probably be next spring before that happens. I hope not, but that would be my luck.... Good thing my cochins are almost breeding age, maybe I can get some babies from them for the sale as well.

Yeah, I'm thinking of talking hubby into going - maybe one last hurrah before it gets cold to try to pare down the brooder coop.

I'm still waiting for my new quail to start laying.

See, that's the best part about this sale!! You don't even have to go, just take the birds there and drop them off if you don't feel like staying. The auction is done through an auction company, so you don't get payed then like you would at Sano. They send you a check 1-2 weeks later. You have to have the birds in something they can stay in, so just make sure they are good to go, drop them off and go home. I wish I would have known that this spring, I waited there all day, with no money, for the sale to be over....only to find out that I had to wait for my money

Thanks for the info...The only livestock auction I've been to so far is Sano...Any time I wanted chickens someone already had them within driving distance(like Shelley, Meri, Christy, or Daryl) or I'd by the eggs and incubate, so I wasn't much help for you.

Hey girls: Got the coop painted on the outside...Don't look too bad from far away...

Have painted it gray and have the boards painted barn red that will frame the windows didn't angle them, too much work... Changed my mind on the colors by the way. Looks more blended in with the aged leanto this way. Cortni is supposed to paint the inside, dread seeing it when she's done... She's not gonna have the patience to paint around all the 2x4 wall framing on the walls we didn't double

. I probably should double them but I think they are fine since they are the ones under the leanto and the front that faces away from the chill and gets the sun in the Winter.

Okay here is the outside of the coop now

And Cortni painting the inside...Got the two full walls done. Told her not to worry about the other two cause the are too choppy with 2x4s framing windows and doors

I did get my chicks from Healthy Chicks and More. I had to find a company that sold in small batches. My Pet Chicken was outrageously high for shipping. So I found that site where I could order 10. They sent me a free "rare bird" (that was Feathers) and a packing peanut which was a BR roo that I'd already rehomed. My friend took 5 of the BR pullets and I kept 2 BR pullets and 3 BO pullets as well as the 2 extras. All the ones we ordered are still very healthy and growing well (except one of hers which got eaten). I later decided to get a few more (despite the fact I am only supposed to have 5 non-crowing and one crowing) and the ones I bought from a feed store are not growing as quickly and one of them has a head twitch. I will take a few pics of my original 5 from that hatchery when I get a chance. They are sweet little things, especially the BOs. I was very pleased with them (of course this is my first experience with chickens at all so I don't have a lot to compare them with.)

Both the black mottled hens I got from him are setting, they have been for at least 2 weeks

Do you still have the self blues??

I got lucky with the buff columbian pullet, it was supposed to be a mille fleur d'uccles. Buff columbian X mottled= mille fleur, so looks like I have a project on my hands

ETA: I do have some babies right now, looks like 3 cockerels and 4 pullets. They are about 6 weeks old. I'd be interested in swapping for a black OEGB roo or some buff silkies

I have one hen each of blue, splash, and black in OEGB, but no roo for them besides the white and the pyle.

Looks great, I prefer the grey and red - I think the whole thing painted red might have stuck out too much.

So did you get Sam to the bus station okay? I got those girls in a cage waiting for you....I'll be here, so if I don't answer (if you call first) I'm probably outside. Not only do I have to feed all my animals (which takes a good 45 minutes at least), but I'm taking care of dad's dogs, chickens, and pigeons. So it takes a little bit

Looks good Cindy, if you ever get bored you can come help me get started on my stuff

It'll be like the old-time barn raisin's, but without the barn....at least I don't think I need a whole barn!
