I was wondering about that myself!! Not very good apparently. Only about half her eggs ever developed. If that even. She laid eggs for a month before ever setting, and I only have liike 7 or 8 of her chicks!! I told dad it's probably because of the size difference!!

The only standard cochin babies I have are the ones running around the yard. Each hen has at least two, except for the young blue splash hen. Hers are the black dutch hen's chicks. That one hasn't went broody on me yet, I kinda hope she holds off for a while

One of my OEG hens eggs is hatching!! Now THAT will be one interesting chick!! The dad is the splash roo!! There are 7 eggs (I think) in the bator, plus she has quite a few under her. Some may be Charlie's but it's hard to say. I didn't get him that long ago, and she has been broody a week and a half already!

OH yeah!! I forgot all about those!!! I haven't even really looked at them yet!! I'll have to check tomorrow! They are technically dad's but I'm the one feeding them! He doesn't buy any chick starter!!

Here's the newest ones, still in the hatcher. They think the button eggs are pillows I think!!

The one with the egg shell stuck on its butt is from the black dutch. The two in the front are from dad's araucana mix, one from blue splash roo and one from red pyle roo.

And here's my $30 quail chicks!! $15.50 for 18 cortunix (the yellow chicks) and $15 for 20 buttons (the little brown spot in there!) Three chicks is all I have. I don't have very high hopes that any more will hatch.

They really like their brooder buddy! They were climbing on it, and snuggled up to it so much that they knocked him over!

Well, if he doesn't want them..... You know who to call!!!

Heck, I'd pay him for them. He can keep a little roo for Bertha - and sell me the rest
smile.png

Inquiring minds want to know....

I'm having Cochin Withdrawls!!!! save me !!!

I think he said there were 4, but like I said, I'm not sure. I know there are 3 buff orps, the stand out from the yellow, white and black ones! I'll have to check. He said there were 4 'small' ones in there, so I guess he means bantams.
The reason he gave these to us is cause he is gonna quit hatching for the winter. He doesn't even have chickens!! He either buys these eggs, or people give them to him! He hatches them for people too, and most times they don't pick them all up. So he either sells them or gives them away.
I'll check tomorrow and see which ones they are. I think he said they might be mixed, but I'm not sure. It should be easy to tell. The mixed ones I have don't have much feathering on their legs.

Ok, I need to get off here - I was reading recent posts and someone was ordering cochins (bantams) from ideal, and the entire thread folks were posting pics of their hatchery cochins and I want some so badly, LOL I was at the Ideal site adding up how much it would cost me to get chicks....

I am soooooo bad.

I didn't order.... not gonna.... nope.....

Gonna wait on my eggs I got to hatch.....
