the mice are so bad in our house - we got some new mouse poison, pellets not blocks, and they are dropping like flies, now. I keep finding mice sitting in plain sight (not dead yet) bleeding out their ears and nose - it rocks, IMO. I hate mice. I can then just pick them up and flush them, nasty little boogers

I went to pet Camille this morning and she didn't even flinch. Last night she still tried to dance with me a bit, but I think she is getting the idea that I'm not gonna give her a shot or try to grab ahold of her and not let go

I have this one white call drake who thinks he's a bad man
wink.png
every time I walk too near to him, he rushes my feet like he's gonna mess me up
lau.gif
then he stops just short of touching me and walks away. It's so cute cause he's so small and I could just step on him and squish him

well, that's enough randomness so far, I'll get back to ya all if I come up with any other random thoughts.

I can just picture that, kind of like that little OEGB roo that is always trying to 'get' Cristian. Ever since Cris caught him though, he's not been as spunky. But this bird is not even up to Cris's knee, and acts like he's soooooooo big! You should have heard that bird screaming when Cris caught him

ETA: We've tried the pellets, they don't seem to work. I also tried that peanut butter and plaster of paris thing, the rats/mice won't even eat it
hmm.png
We got some of that Just One Bite stuff the other day, and dad says it works real good. Hopefully we'll see a decrease in the nasty things

total count on guineas this morning so far is 5 (including those last night). still waiting on the other eggs.

oh, btw, Shelley, I told hubby that you said I ought to get some guineas.

I cannot repeat his answer on this forum

I'd be banned.

Surely it can't be that bad

I have so many, I'll probably just sell those. I don't really like the pearls, and I already have 4
hmm.png
Most of them are girls though, and I'm a bit short on girls. But most of my lavenders are boys, and breeding lavender to pearl can get at least some lavenders, so I'll probably keep these. I've got 10 white/buff/copper/whatever colored guinea keets in the house now, plus 2 more in a cage in the back yard. Counting those, I have 26 guineas
hmm.png
I don't think I need anymore, and I'm not sure I'll be keeping all the ones that are in the house. Probably some of the girls, but that'd be it. I think the 2 in the cage are a male and female. I'll probably keep both since they are together already. It will take a while for them to integrate with the others, if they ever do. I have 2 groups right now, the older buff males have taken up with the lav/pearl/buff group, then there are 2 younger pearls that think they are chickens...they are always hanging out with that little splash OEGB hen I have

he REALLY hates guineas
lau.gif
those last ones I had made so much noise (usually for no apparent reason) he just wants his peace and quiet, I think. Although, the ducks and geese get going and that can get loud, but not nearly as idiotic as guineas.

One night I went out to find out what the ruckus was (it was like 10 PM, summertime, so not totally dark) and they were all perched in their tree having a fit, I shined the light, looked all over, they shut up when I shined the light, until the MOTH that was flying near them passed in the light again, and they acted like it was gonna eat them.

I don't think I've ever seen a more stoop!d bird than a guinea.

Speaking of guineas... we have 5 and they are mean lil boogers to our chickens at times. They are younger than our chickens, I think almost a month. How can you tell the boys from the girls... I would like to know what we got.

The easiest (and most accurate) way is by their call. The females have a two-syllable call, some say it sounds like 'buck-wheat'. The males have a one-syllable call. You can tell by their helmets and wattles, but you have to really know what to look for. I don't

well poop... I'll probably never figure it out,

I was chicken watching last night and noticed that Big Daddy (one of our BO roosters) would find something yummy to eat on the ground and call to some of the guineas to come and get it.... I'm guess they are girls, there was 3 of them. I have seen one guinea try to mate some of our BOs. So we atleast have 3 girls and 1 boy but I cant tell whos, who. Oh well........ thanks for the help, I'll try to listen to their calls.

Shelley, you need to make some business cards, I'm telling you, girl!!

that lady who called had bought two quail off me at Sano, I gave her a card, she was calling cause both of hers are girls and she wants a boy (and a couple more girls) and eggs, and buff orps, and whatever else I can show her that she doesn't know that she needs yet
lau.gif
all because I handed her our card when I sold her the two quail.

I've also had calls from the cards I have in at Day & Day.

You can get blanks at walmart and just make your own - they are pretty cheap.

I'll have to look for them when I go, are they there by the printer ink and stuff?

yep, back by the stationary/printer stuff. they have printer stuff in two different (not side by side) aisles (idiots) so you may have to look an aisle over to find them. I just got a pack of them and make ten or so of them up at a time. That way if I have to change the content, I don't have a bunch printed that are obsolete.

Mine look something like this....

sometimes I'll put what I have on there - buff orps, barred rocks, etc... and sometimes Ijust go with the "dual purpose breeds" thing, depends on what I have at the time. I think the dual purpose one was for the mutts, once Iget the pure breds I'll be more specific.
