I love the plastic tubs - I can move them around to clean (tee hee, yeah, clean - that's my story) and hose them out when I'm done - much easier than a cage. Although I'll probably have to bring the cages in soon, that first batch I hatched is getting bigger (I have them split into two totes right now.) The other two I hatched on Halloween will be able to stay in their brooder for a long time.
speaking of hatching, BabyMama is ticked off at me this morning. I didn't think anything of it - She lays her one egg per day every morning.
After she eats and gets a drink and poos, she runs back to the coop to lay her egg. She had a couple of them in there, cause I didn't gather eggs yesterday evening, and there were two extra eggs (from other hens) this morning when I went in, so I grabbed all four and went to get hay for the calves.
Well, she had obviously been saving those eggs, because she came back to lay her egg and was running around the coop squawking like the sky was falling, and having a major hissy fit. She's still down there ticked off (
I guess now I know why Jr. hides hers in the barn, so I can't take them to the fridge.)
I have a buff orp trying to be broody - she is slightly confused, switched nests twice yesterday, but she wasn't sitting on anything so I figured to leave her be - today she has two eggs under her, so I hope she has it figured out. I was gonna take them away, but figured since they're cooped up anyway, it might be ok.
If BabyMama insists on going broody I'll have to swap her eggs for some pure eggs - I don't need anymore mutts right now, got plenty.
I found a cool program online last night to create business cards, so I made up a bunch of really nice ones. I figure to drop them off at Day & Day before saturday when they have their grand opening. Not that I have much to sell right now, but I figure to get them into people's hands before spring, and Day & Day will be busy that day, maybe someone will take one or two.
