Baby sis had her first bout with physical therapy today, so hopefully she won't be in the hospital for too long. I guess they are leaving the wound on her ankle open for a few days (drainage?), so she will be there until at least Monday. We won't know for a while yet if she is going to lose her foot, but she is young so hopefully her body can adapt to the lack of the 2 arteries.

Praying for your sister!!!

wish your sister a full recovery.

We put our first 2 roosters in the freezer yesterday. A black wyandotte cockerel and a BLRW cockerel.... The black makes the best meat bird for sure . Now we will see if I can eat them.

ooops.... Jerry was logged in

Baby sis is still in the hospital, though she's supposed to be getting out on Friday. She said she has feeling and movement in her foot, so they are hopeful that this means they won't have to amputate.

Poor girl is missing her babies something fierce! She has 4 of her own, ages 10, 7, 6, and 4, then 2 of her fiance's ages 4 and 6. Personally I think I'd be enjoying the vacation, all of them are boys except one of the 6 y/o's!

Well I just figured out that the puppies will be 8 weeks old a week before Christmas. I'd like to wait for the pups to be 10 weeks old before they leave their mama, but I think I'd have better luck rehoming them as Christmas puppies. One of our neighbors is going to take one I believe, so I'll only have one to find a home for. Maybe I'll just wait until it's a little older, who knows. They seem to behave better when they stay with mama longer.

Oh, not even sure I ever posted about them? Cristian's beagle Cutie Pie had 3 puppies on October 23. She'd birthed them in a hole she dug behind her dog house and laid on one when she went back to them. That one was a girl, the 2 left are both boys. So if anyone wants a beagle pup around Christmas please let me know

Mama is a red-headed tri, though she is not 100% pure. Her daddy was 3/4 beagle and her mama was full, making her 87% (I think). The daddy to the pups is pure, making them about 94% pure. They are fat and healthy, I think all they do is sleep. But with only 2 in the litter now, mama has plenty to go around

I have 18 Bob White chicks that I would love to sell or trade. I live in the very north west Tennessee. Obion County My preferences for trade would be a silkie hen or nearly laying pullet, Production Red hen, B/B/S/ Hen or older pullet, Jerse Giant hen nearly laying pullet. Or you can make an offer. I will travel up to an hour away form my home to either meet or deliver the quail for sale or trade. They will be going to the auction this saturday or next.

Oh, they are from 2 to 3 weeks old. Some a little older but all still small. There is one that is very small but keeps up with the rest. It was the last to hatch.

I sell hatching eggs, though the majority of mine right now are mixed (free rangers). I am working on building pens for them but I don't have any austrolorps. The majority of my large fowl birds are either cochin mixes, old english game mixes, or barred rock mixes, but I have some black copper marans and black ameraucanas, if they ever start laying. I have a quad of barred rocks and also some golden lakenvelders but they are currently free ranging with everyone else. Other than those I have several different breeds of bantam, but again most of them are free ranging at this time.
Currently the only ones laying are one or two old english game bantams, a barred rock, and some ducks. If anyone else is laying I can't find their nests. I also have button and coturnix quail; the coturnix are out of season and won't start laying good again until probably February or March, but the buttons are kept inside. I get 3-4 eggs daily from them. Most people around here (KY) that have chickens have both roosters and hens, so if you have anyone local that sells 'eating' eggs, chances are they are fertile and hatchable. If you decide to go that route just make sure that you buy eggs that have not been washed.

SOOOOO... I originally planned to build an incubator from recycled stuff....but now....I'm wondering if I shouldn't just fork out the $$ for the brinsea mini eco 10. Brinsea in general seems to have gotten really good reviews from others on BYC and hmmmmm.....for new eggers that don't know what they are doing maybe prefab would be better than making our own.

Thanks shelleyd for the advice

I thought cortunix laid all year round. Mine are still going strong. The Bob Whites don't lay in winter. Mine stopped a few months ago. I haven't been hatching any because I have more than I can deal with now. I'm trying to get them all processed before it gets really cold. I'm just not all that crazy about having to have my hands in water when it's cold so I can clean out and refull them. Next year I know we are going to come up with a better way of doing this. I didn't do my bird math before hand.

My EE's have stopped laying already too. I sold off several birds last week so I only get 3 or 4 eggs a day now. The Buff Oprhingtons will be laying soon.
