Interesting! We may need to stop by there on the way to the Etown farmers market tomorrow morning to check it out.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm in Etown...well Cecilia so might as well say E-town. From what I have heard the "swap" is just a flea market, and there havent been many animal sellers. So if there are any buyers then it would be a good place, but I'd hate to pack up a bunch of birds for no reason. I'm kinda skeptical of that area...been there on the days people are there and its very small, I mean kinda like a yard sale on the days I've driven by. Mind you - I dont drive by there a bunch. So someone correct me. I usually sell mine at the Grayson Co Flea Market in Leitchfield. In the Spring I do well with prices. and toward Fall the prices begin to drop on birds. HOWEVER.....the problem I see is that a lot of sellers there dont have healthy birds, but that helps me with what I sell, people jump on my birds and buy me out within 1/2 hour to hour after I'm there! I heard this weekend from someone at the Grayson Co Flea Market that the one in Shepherdsville HAS picked up...but...thats by what they said, and thats their opinion, I havent ever been there and have wanted to go myself. But I have no birds to sell, only birds I need to buy!

I was at Shepherdsville a few weeks ago and did ok. It is getting better, but still not a big as before it moved. I don't think enough people know it is still going. I am going up to the one in E-town this Sat to check it out, wanted to go last week but did not make it.
I will post what I find.

I am pretty sure i will be packing up and heading to Leitchfield on Wed. I have 11 Pekin ducks that are roughly 5 weeks old. I also have 8 one day old ducklings. Not sure yet. Its going to depend on how the day goes tomorrow.

Also where else are there good swap meets that i can take my ducklings to? We are going to Tim and Suzies next weekend. Not sure if its possible to bring poultry there to sell. I need to find these ducklings homes.

Just wondering if there is anyone right in Munfordville or Bonnieville that would want to meet me & trade 12 hatching eggs... I've got a broody I'd like to put some eggs under, I usually just put eggs from my flock under my broodies but I want to add some different chickens in my flock. I'd really like something that lays nice big brownish eggs.

I am right there, but all I have are mixed (hens are RIR, EE, Golden Comit or a mix of those) My flock roo is a EE/RIR mix and then I have two RIR ( I think pure) roos also.I would have about 6 bantam buff brahma eggs and 1 or 2 Mille De Fleur bantam eggs. The bantams are seperate so would be pure. I don't need any hatching eggs myself, all my hens are set or have chicks right now, but would be interested in a "credit" for later. Let me know if you are interested.

Deal...

and then you just let me know when you want yours... my chickens are all together, my barnyard flock is a mixture of RIRs, BOs, EEs, different bantams. So none of my hatching eggs are pure I hope thats ok with you... they all make pretty chicks. I also have a bantam tractor that has 1 rooster & 9 hens, they make pretty chickies too.

How long do you need to collect 12 eggs? I'm gonna be at the Hart County High School this Wed. dont know the exact time yet, pickin up Ds14 girlfriend to hang at our house for the day.

I can have them by then. Do you want any of the Bantam eggs? Some of the Brahma ones need to be set soon they are anywhere from 2-9 days old. I had been saving them in case I had another hen go broody, but no such luck.

Just let me know what you want and what time and I can meet you at the High School. I will PM you my number.

Don't forget to join us this Saturday for the 2nd annual Central KY Chickenstock! We had loads of fun last time, should be another good one. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=493630

Also
, don't forget that we are starting a swap/sell/trade on Thursday evenings at the Giles-Millerfield Country Store in Adair Co. on Hwy. 76 starting at 3 p.m. central time.

Anyone have recommendations where I can get some plastic milk crates for nesting boxes in the Etown area?

Our broody hen is taking up the one milk crate we have, so I need to get a few more.

Actually I use heavy built laundry baskets weighted down. Stacked side by side the hens will share them for laying until someone goes broody. I put a small 2x2 rail on the floor in front which tilts it back just slightly against the wall so all the eggs gather at the back of the basket. It keeps a space they can stand in to adjust eggs. They are sturdy depending on the quality you choose, and 100% washable/disinfectable. Used them for more than 20 years.

I have seen them at the Pedlers Mall. They were $4 ea in a booth. You might find them for less if you go through the whole place (I found one for a $1 that the bottom was cracked). The laundry baskets that dawnwinds said do work, we used that till my hubby build nest boxes. Storage totes would work also or ever cardboard boxes.
