PS, can anyone confirm or deny the Cornish X of that last hen? Her name is "Big Momma" and she has the signature size and dino run, but she looks different than the other Cornish X I had.

That may be because the other was a rescue who fell off the Tyson truck going to slaughter. Of course she fell off in front of the neigbors driveway and just sat there all day. I noticed her when I got off the school bus and at 3 and when she was still there at 5 I ran over there in the rain and got her. She was HEAVY! The meat across her wing, the part connected to the body not the tip, had split open and the bone benath had broken and was sticking out. I had to pay 60 bucks to get it amputated, but it was worth it. Her name was Henrietta. :

Yep, one year my dad decided to be "smart" and got two bottle babies - they both got scours and died on us. I won't do bottle babies.

I do have your phone # I was cleaning out my inbox today, but I saved it. Plan on Friday unless something comes up - I already told hubby I am coming to your house that day, so he'll have to take Jon to work
big_smile.png
He mumbled an ok - I'll hold him to it, LOL (he was distracted at the time, LOL I'll remind him before then.)

I am hoping that I might find another few cochins at the auction, I doubt it, but anything can happen,
lol.png

When I got James and the girls there was another pair of bantam cochins there, I imagine they sold at auction, though - I think they were some type of mottled colors (do they have crele cochins?). Just a roo and one hen, but hey, I'll take most anything in cochins right now (as long as they aint butt ugly or hard feathered, LOL).
If hubby hadn't been there.....

Talk to ya tomorrow

I don't know about cochins, but there were some beautiful mille fluers there week before last. I almost got them, but I don't have any breeder pens yet for pure breeds. My BTW and silkies are still babies, so they have no problems right now. I will need seperate pens this spring though. I need to do something for my ducks as well. Dad said something about them being all mixed up, but he has NO IDEA what I have planned for his pond!!
I know they have partridge cochins, that are kind of mottled, and i think they have some that are the colors of mille fluers, tho not sure about that.
We noticed a hen missing today, two actually. We hope they have hidden somewhere, and are setting. One is one of Dad's games, and she always hides her nests. The other is a
young cochin mix, that should be laying, but we haven't seen any eggs, so she must be hiding hers as well.
My hen that the stupid dog let out went under dad's chicken house for the night. I tried to get her back in the cage, but no luck. I just hope Princess is on the lookout, and nothing gets her or her chicks.
Oh, btw, if you like beagles, you can come and drool over my dad's!! He has 3 females, and I have one female. Mine is only about 2-3 months old. I'm not sure, someone gave her to Cristian. He had a male, but his stupid pit bull broke his chain about a month ago, and killed the beagle. Stupid dog. I love pit bulls, but I would not have one that was aggressive. I had to take Baby to the vet over that stupid dog when she was smaller. She had been playing with him, and I guess he got tired of her, and bit the top of her head. It got infected, and she had to be on antibiotics and pain killers for a week. Of course dad didn't even offer to pay for any of it, even though it was his dog that did it. I won't ket Cristian around that dog anymore.
Maybe when Midget (my beagle) gets older (like a year from now at least), we could hook her up with your male, that is if he's not fixed
lol.png

Hope to see you Friday. And I promise I won't let you buy much

Toby isn't fixed (yet, I've been threatening him, LOL).
He isn't pure beagle, I think he may be mixed with spaniel of some flavor (of all things, LOL). The guy had about 20 dogs on his place, and I asked if I could buy a puppy, he said take any dog I wanted, PLEASE take more than one
lol.png
lol.png

Toby was the fattest, laziest one of the bunch - I figured he wouldn't run away once I got him home - too lazy, LOL. He isn't fat anymore, and he is much more active, now.

Oh, and the end of his tail got run over, before I even got him, and it zig zags - I think he got run over by a tractor,
lol.png
stoopid pup. He still will stand in the middle of the driveway and look at you as you're driving towards him - then he moves at the last minute. My son wanted to name him "kinky" I said no way was I gonna stand outside and yell "C'mere, Kinky" to get him to come to me.

Peace -
Meri (who ought to be in bed instead of online, still.)

Yes I'm sure the neighbors would have thought "well she could at least wait till she's in the house to yell at her husband!"

It was funny how we got ours. Me and Cris had went with a friend of mine, looking for guineas. We stopped at a house, that ended up not even being the right house, and my friend went to catch the guineas. The guy had beagle dogs tied all over his place, and these two little puppies running around the yard (plus a mutt puppy, that was SOO cute, dad would have had a fit about that one though!). The guy told me that he would give Cris one of the pups, if it was ok. At first I said no, cause they were both pretty scared, and he couldn't catch them anyway. Well he finally did catch Midget, and he was so happy that he got that puppy, that I just couldn't say no. Plus with her being a beagle, I know dad wouldn't care too much.

Better yet, after we got home, and dad was saying how pretty she was, I told him of the other one, and that it was even prettier. He asked me why I didn't get that one, and I told him because it was a male (this was right after his pit killed his male). So Mr. we-don't-need-anymore-dogs then proceeds to tell me I should have gotten them both!! I wish I would have, cause he acts like Midget is his! I was like 'if you want to buy her feed, be my guest!' But that would never happen. He would just feed her the same garbage he feeds his. Sorry, I like to keep my animals healthy!

<edit> because the system didn't like the 'c' word I used to describe dad's dog food, and changed it to poop, which didn't really fit!

Ok, well, this certainly wasn't in my plans for the day.

About noonish or so, Junior Walker pulls into my yard (Junior is 80 years old, very sweet guy, he's the local Donkey Expert). He is followed by a friend of his who has 7 donkeys for sale. The guy looks even more fragile than Junior, and he says that can't take care of them over the winter like he used to, so he wants to find them homes - Junior had told him to follow him to our house,
lol.png
Junior knows a sucker for a furry critter when he sees one.

Ok, now, I simply don't have room for 7 more donkeys, and one of them was a Jack, of which I already have two - so I didn't take them all.

I took 4

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow.

We got - A Mama donkey and her baby (mama is supposed to be pregnant. he said the baby was 3 months old - looks at least 5 months old, though.) a 2 year old (probably pregnant), and a yearling - not pregnant.

So, now I have 9 donkeys, and possibly 3 babies next year from them (one for sure, that I already had the mama, the other two we'll wait and see).

I am officially at full capacity for donkeys right now, LOL.
I have to come up with names for them, too - I gave hubby his chance to name one or two, he hasn't given me anything good, yet.

I know the yearling I am going to name Nibbler - she kept trying to eat my hand. She likes to "sing" too, so it should get a bit noisy around here. (I love to hear donkeys bray)
I also want to name the baby Magdalena - Maggie for short.

The other two I don't know yet. I'll have to sleep on it.
We had a harder time getting them OUT of the trailer than getting them into it, and since we have a two horse trailer, we had to make two trips. The poor 2 year old scrubbed her rump up on the trailer, will have to put some blukote on it tomorrow after she calms down a bit. I also have to fix the thing she scrubbed herself on - I didn't realize it would do that - color me stoopid, I just didn't think about donkeys being shorter than horses.

Anyway, by the time I got home, I was dirty, hot, sweaty and ready for an adult beverage - and I rarely drink. But man was that tasty!!

If ya have any suggestions for names for the other two girls, let me know.

ETA - Junior has 35 donkeys, and he told me he had two babies born the last two days - both of them very reddish. I may have to talk to Junior next spring about those babies, LOL I don't have any reds.

Peace -
Meri

OMG!!! What do you need all those donkeys for?? My dad would kill me if I even got 1!! Check out my siggy. I have a link there with pics of my kids, well some of them anyway, there are too many to catch all at once! Good luck with the donkeys!!

Why do I need all those chickens? LOL Because they are so darn CUTE!!

Donkeys rock!! They will clean an area out for you that is overgrown with briars and thistles (they love them). They can be taught to pull a wagon or just about anything (ours do not pull stuff - never trained them for it) ; they make great watchdogs, a donkey will stomp a coyote to death; If they are big enough children can ride them, or a smaller adult can; Plus - they are just so darn cute!! (did I mention that already?)

There is a bigger market for donkeys down here, right now than horses. You can't give a horse away around here.

And how could anyone possibly resist this face ? ----

^ that is my baby, Butters (Nutter Butter)^

Butters likes to follow you around like a puppy dog (only she's more cuddly) and she loves to be scratched and told how adorable she is.

I'll go check out your pic site, now....
ETA ---- PUPPY TUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heya - welcome to the forum

Well, what kind of setup are you planning, how many chickens, etc...? What size chickens, and for what purpose - pets, eggs, meat?

If you're in the country, you can have more than if you are in town. If you have building skills (or the money to pay someone else) you can have a bigger coop, or just let them freerange and sleep int he barn at night.

Tell us a bit about yourself, I'm sure we'll chime in with some help

My advice is: BANTAMS, BANTAMS, and more BANTAMS!!! They are the funnest little birds you will ever see!! They lay medium sized eggs, so that's not too bad, and they are excellent setters. They only eat about half as much as the standard sized chickens do, but they are so darned cute!! Plus if you wnat chickens for meat, they are excellent setters, so you could come to my house and buy all the eggs you want. Dad has RIR, SLW, and white leghorns, so you could hatch out a few meat chickens in the spring, and butcher and freeze them fo winter, then you wouldn't have to feed the pigs all winter long!! Plus, did I mention the banties are so CUTE? (Not trying to coerce or anything...)
