Kentucky people

Thank you! I'm very proud of them all, they all have great personality. I wish I knew what kind they are, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were a mix of some kind.

I think we'll take "Blue" if you still want to give him up, my father-in-law did some good convincing today on the virtues of roosters

I think I might have found a home for one of the other two also if you can't find anyone else to take them off your hands.

Coolness!! Just let me know when ya want to come pick him up. I'm retired so I am home most of the time - unless I'm hauling a kid one place or the other, LOL, or going into town for parts.

My kid is off the next two days, so I don't believe I have anywhere to go monday, hubby has a doc appt. tuesday morning, but we'll be home before noon. Only thing I got going tomorrow (I think) is getting chicken feed in town, and cleaning out my fridge - if ya want to save me from the fridge cleaning, be my guest and show up anytime, LOL.

I have to make hubby build me a chicken door in the new coop for George and the girls - dang donkeys got in there again today and ate all their food (and I was low, as it was! stoopid donkeys). Well, mostly it was Juju, but the horse, Sassy, helped him - he got in there three times, every time I would chase him out, he would sneak back after I left.
The last time he accidently shut the door behind him, LOL he didn't like that at all. I guess I ought to be happy he didn't trash the place when he discovered he couldn't get out.

Usually Sassy tattles on them, but since food was involved, she didn't tattle this time. Traitor

Anyway, the kid doesn't work until 4 o'clock any day this week (what days he does work) so I ought to be home between 4:15-ish and 9:00 at night, also, in case you work days.

I'll PM ya with directions and my phone number, so you can call if ya get lost (it is EASY to get lost coming here, LOL - you'll be fine til ya have to turn onto our road.) The best bet is to do like I did with Cindy the first time, have me meet ya at the country store down the road, then you can follow me in.

Peace -
Meri

No big rush on this end, I need to see what size carriers I have to transport him in. I work from 7-4 throughout the week so the weekends are best for me. Sorry to hear about those horses, they do seem to get into everything. I was going to let one roam the back few acres before I found out the one I was going to get was so hateful.

Yeah, we had two horses we had to find homes for because they were bullying the donkeys. The donkeys really are sweethearts, they just think with their stomachs, LOL like most furry critters (and chickens, too, I guess).

We have 5.5 donkeys and one horse. The horse is older, and has arthritis really badly, so no one could ride her, but she is a sweetie, so we'll keep her til she dies. She gets along great with the donkeys, too, because they are more easy going than horses are, and they are slower and less of a threat when she can't get out of the way fast enough (and gets knocked around by bigger horses).

The horse also needs her front feet trimmed, but finding someone to come out to do it is ridiculous!! farriers are all booked, and if ya get one to promise to come, then ya don't hear from them, and they don't show, I am really getting frustrated, I'm thinking of taking a farrier course, myself, just so I can do my own animals. I have a guy who will come, but I can't get ahold of him - he's having marital problems.
roll.png
(it's his own dang fault!)

The weekend would be great, too - I PM'd ya with directions, and my phone number, so you can get ahold of me.

Oh, and I have a big box, if ya can't find a carrier. I got the box from Cindy when I had to seperate poor Nana from Stevie Ray and his girls when I brought them all home, LOL. They wuz pickin' on my poor Nana!! the meanies
wink.png
I would have just held her, but I was driving, LOL. I did take her out to share a cookie with me, when we had to stop for gas, though

I'm rambling... so.....

I know, it sounds like I'm putting you off, LOL I'm not, really.

Let me get with hubby and see what he has planned next week - would any day of the week be good? I also have to find my kid and see what his schedule is for next week - usually he has at least two days off during the week. (not fridays, unfortunately.)

Hey, maybe I can talk hubby into letting me come out Friday anyway (he can take the kid to work - he has a car although we dont often drive it) and we can go to the auction, I can bring the roos along and we can maybe get rid of them.

We were just outside talking about what needs to be done to expand the corral, and the barn (we're putting on a back lean to on it) and how much it'll cost us to fence the lower field for cows. LOL work here is never done.

That is all stuff for this winter though, when it isn't so hot to work and the ground is softer -- although, the corral will probably be the first things done, and soon - he wants to get some younger cows this time, and start them in the corral, then move them to the field. I told him no bottle babies, though. I don't need THAT hassle. If he gets bottle babies, he is gonna have to get up in the morning and help do chores.

As long as he frees up the corral by spring in case I do decide I want goats.

So, if Friday is good for you, I'll check and see if it works for our schedule (in other words, I'll tell hubby how it is

Yeah you definitely don't want bottle babies. Dad says they die real easy. I was wanting to get one a few months old, but never did, now I'll have to wait till spring. I was wanting to get one to put in with the horses, so it would eat all the stuff the horses wouldn't. I definitely can't afford one that I have to feed!

I am not working right now, so I am here almost always. You still have my phone #? If not let me know and I'll pm you. I usually go to the sale every week, tho I don't need anymore animals, plus they seem to be slowing down on chickens. I am still looking for a few rouen hens, but I don't think I'm gonna have any luck. I will probably have to wait till spring and get some eggs. We'll see. Yeah let me know when you want to come. Like I said I'm almost always here. Only problem with this week is that my son is on fall break, so he will be around to drive us CRAZY!!!

HI! I'm new on the board and I live in Madisonville, KY. I hope everyone knows where that is, over on the western side of the state. My mom and I have a little mini-farm on about three acres here. We have three dogs, 2 Boer goats, 9 ducks, 9 chickens, and we take care of a handful of stray cats that seem to have moved in while we weren't looking.

My flock is very roo laden at the moment, but on the 14th of this month we are going to the jockey to get some hens. I have:

2 Ancona Roos
2 Barred Rocks (1 Roo, 1 Hen)
2 EE's (1 roo, 1 hen)
1 Jersey Giant Hen
1 unknown (probably cornish X) hen
1 Silkie Roo

Here are some pictures of them:

Yep, one year my dad decided to be "smart" and got two bottle babies - they both got scours and died on us. I won't do bottle babies.

I do have your phone # I was cleaning out my inbox today, but I saved it. Plan on Friday unless something comes up - I already told hubby I am coming to your house that day, so he'll have to take Jon to work
big_smile.png
He mumbled an ok - I'll hold him to it, LOL (he was distracted at the time, LOL I'll remind him before then.)

I am hoping that I might find another few cochins at the auction, I doubt it, but anything can happen,
lol.png

When I got James and the girls there was another pair of bantam cochins there, I imagine they sold at auction, though - I think they were some type of mottled colors (do they have crele cochins?). Just a roo and one hen, but hey, I'll take most anything in cochins right now (as long as they aint butt ugly or hard feathered, LOL).
If hubby hadn't been there.....

Talk to ya tomorrow

Yeah, that ee roo looks almost exactly like Attila - do ya want bookends? you can have Attila, LOL.

(Smartie - look back a few posts - not too many - to see Attila)

I am happy it warmed up a bit at night - I still have the heat lamp going on the jap baby, in case she gets cold. Jem seems to have developed a cold, now, too. Just a little puffy acting, though - no snot or anything.

We have a chance of rain wed. and thurs.

i hope I hope I hope. My hens go out to free range in the mornings, and they look at me like - "Hey, where'd the grass go?"
They even went out into the pasture today to eat some of the donkey's hay, LOL - I guess turnabout is fair, though, the donkeys ate their food before that.

Old Biddy wouldn't go in the coop tonight, got her in finally and all the space on the perch was taken she had to sleep on top of the nest boxes - that'll teach her to get her butt moving tomorrow night, LOL. Maybe.

Peace -
Meri

LOL! They do look very similar, but no thanks. I already have too many roos. I personally don't care about the ratio, but the are getting into little fights here and there and I want the girls to be comfortable. I'm going to the Jockey to try for some hens on the 14th. The fights aren't bad at all though. The BR roo fights the anconas, but its not really a fight. The Anconas will stretch up their necks and ruffle the feathers. They will then stare each other down, jump around a couple of times, and then its over. There isn't even clashing. Just stare downs.
