Well, I was up early today - Sam overslept again, missed the bus by 5 minutes. So, when I got back I figured I'd just let the chickens out - Miss Celie has decided she likes the coop, and she doesn't want to go outside this morning.
I'm sure she'll come out later today, I just hope she goes back in tonight. She was diggin' on the heat lamp when I opened the door this morning. Dang Guinea went after Spazz as soon as the chickens came out, rode on her back all the way to the garage (holding onto her neck while Spazz squawked and screamed). I'm really gonna have to do something about those guineas, they are
so mean. Nasty birds, I won't ever have them again once these ones are gone.
I had an idea for the coop door that I have to leave open for the free rangers. Not sure if it'll deter the donkeys
but it will help with the cold coming in to the rest of the birds in the coop.
I'm gonna figure out a blanket or a door quilt (would have to make a door quilt) to hang over the doorway, but leave it up high enough they can go under it to go in and out. That way it'll stop a lot of the wind and cold from coming into the coop - not all of it, but it'll certainly help. I have a tarp to hang between the layers and the cochin pen (in the middle) so that might do it for me, but if they need more blockage, I'll try the door quilt.
I used to have window quilts hanging at our old place, since our house was so old and air flowed through the window frames really badly in winter. They helped a lot. I can probably just hang them with hooks and a pole to stick through the top.
They changed the forecast, btw, now they are saying rain through sunday -- and sat. and sun. possibility of snow in the evening. It's too early for snow. Sam is thrilled,
the kid loves winter, he missed the major snow (up in Michigan) last year, maybe he'll get some snow this winter, with how things are looking. I would have thought he wouldn't like snow so much, since up there he had to walk a mile and a half to school through it. Strange child - but then, I liked snow when I was young, too - it's only since I got older and had to drive in it, and didn't play outside in it much that I started to dislike it.
I stopped at the store this morning, too - so I should have all I need to do some baking and candy making while it is nasty out. I hope it isn't so bad that I have to keep the chickens locked in - they hate it when it is that bad out.
my kid (Jon) wants me to take him to
Walmart at Midnight on Wednesday night!! I said no, I'll take him after I get up and do chores. The new verson of World of Warcraft goes on sale at Midnight - but he can wait, there is no way I'm driving into town that time of night unless someone is bleeding out their eyes and needs a doctor.
I'm still watching the chickens really close - makes my stomach tighten up every time I check them, hoping I won't find any sick ones. But I'm trying to keep busy with other stuff, so I don't obsess.
I was gonna stop at Dollar General this morning, to see what they had for Christmas decorations, but they don't open til 8AM and it was only 7AM - I wasn't gonna hang around town that long.
The good thing is, if my Mom and Budd get to come down for Thanksgiving, Mom and I are gonna go to Bowling Green shopping for the holidays - and ya know what they have in Bowling Green ??? Huh? Do Ya ????
!!!!!!!!!!!!HOBBY LOBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a little bit of heaven on earth. I LOVE Hobby Lobby - I miss Hobby Lobby. Heck, I'd even take a Michael's somewhere close - but the closest Michael's I know of is in E-town.
Hey, ya know what Cindy and Shelley ?? We ought to get together some time and just go shopping - just us three (no kids, no hubbys). We can have lunch someplace, maybe do Bowling Green or some other bigger town. Heck, we don't even have to buy anything,
just get away from our families and for a day.
Well, gonna grab something to eat....
