Ms. Lewis Rich :

Cindy.
Are any babies here besides the chipmunk?
Tell Layne not to give up hope there will be a baby for him in the Spring.
Let me know!

Yes my W/M mix hatched too, it is so pretty, solid blue so far, short and fat and sweet as can be. It is already really friendly and laid back. I'll take pics sometime today after I get them in the new brooder.

Thanks again, Cindy

ETA: And I just told Layne what you said...I don't need to describe his reaction...

ETA Again: I still have the other eggs in the hatcher that looked developed the other day, thought I'd wait til Sunday and then open and toss...Thinking I should have laid the Marans on its side though because my experience in the past bunch of them I had once was that several pipped the wrong end and died. The rest was either me or the PO...It was part of my very first bunch to incubate.

Oh yeah Meri, I think I almost have Ron wore down enough to let me put my brooder babies in my new brooder out in his new shed, he had it put next to the driveway so I can run an ext cord to there. So if he breaks I will just bring yours.

Man is it cold out there this morning!!! I left the chickens inside - partly due to cold, and partly due to Mom coming sometime today (don't know when) and her dogs.

They were not happy chickens.

Miss Celie is inside, too - I caught her after dark last night and tossed her inside, also.

So, here I sit, waiting to take Jon to work (he works dayshift today) and trying to figure out how the heck my dog knows Grandma is coming. Lily, I mean, Toby is clueless
lau.gif
But Lily has been watching for two days now. Of course, Lily knows Grandma better than Toby does, she had her around more.

So, every noise outside, every little bump or car sound, and Lily is freaking out barking, wanting to run outside (usually she prefers the couch on days like this).

Oh, I did something wicked last night - I stopped at Wal-Mart when I picked Jon up, cause the boys wanted egg nog
sickbyc.gif
and I saw these trays of Baklava. I caved, I bought the baklava - I adore that stuff, and it is so sweet it gives ya diabetes just looking at it.
I had a piece for breakfast, actually

I moved the babies into the cage last night, since the woodstove was going, and I wanted to keep the door open so heat could get in there. I didn't want the cat to explore the sounds in the room
gig.gif
so I put them in the cage - I think they like it better, actually. Funny, though, the BR will tap on the side of her cage, and the babies will tap back - like they are doing morse code and plotting their escape. (they can't see each other, it is solid wall between). Makes me want to hum the tune from when the Cooler King goes into the Hole

Maybe I ought to give them each a tennis ball to throw against the side of the cage.

So, now the brooder bin is open and cleaned up and ready for more babies

I ended up taping the pad into the BR cage
lau.gif
- she is still trying to scratch it up, and having little success, but at least it MOSTLY stays in place, now.

Well, I better go make myself presentable to take Jon into town (just in case I have to stop anywhere).

Very cute babies Cindy!! I just took my button eggs off the turner, and a lot of them are tilting!! This is supposed to be a good thing, I think
tongue.png
It means there is a chick in it as far as I know! Only 2-3 days and I will know how good they did!! And guess what I just realized?? I have NO BROODER for these babies!!
smack.gif
I have been so preoccupied with hatching them, I didn't realize all my brooders are full!
gig.gif
Guess the A&M and button youngsters are gonna lose their light! I have no more brooder light bases!!

Cute babies !!!

I can probably put the japs in with my babies - they look to be about the same size.

One of the babies isn't doing too well, might lose it. It didn't do well right from the start. It hatched itself out ok (while I was sleeping) then it was lethargic ever since. It is smaller than the others - it had perked up and was walking around and eating fine for a couple days, but now it just stands there and shivers, and it isn't growing like the other babies are. It is one of the RIR babies. The other RIR (that hatched the same night) is bigger than all the other chicks. It even has tail feathers coming in already.

So, I might lose the one baby, but if it is that weak, it will probably be weak forever, so I don't know what else I could do for it. The others are all doing fantastic. The last weak baby I saved (Urkel) turned out to be weak it's whole life - and it became so spoiled from me babying it, it turned into a monster - I ended up having to cull it anyway because it got mean.

It's supposed to be nice tomorrow (well, nicer than today, anyway) so hopefully the ice will melt on the donkey water tank - it never thawed at all today, I kept having to go out and break the ice for them all day long. Guess it's time to hook up the water heater and throw it into the tank.

I'll get some updated pics of the babies tomorrow.

Yeah I need to round up some duck wranglers...the pond was almost completely frozen over this morning!! Heck, all day for that matter! And I get to get another bunny water bottle. It was frozen (of course), and the bunny knocked it off the side of the cage and proceeded to chew a hole in it!! Now it won't work, but at least the spout will fit on a soda bottle, already tried!

If I weren't using all of my lamps (and one of Cindy's

) I'd loan ya a lamp. As it is I may have to go buy another lamp Monday, when I grab another chick waterer

I'm keeping Day & Day in business all by my little ol' lonesome.

I have one that is not in use, but will be for the new hatches when they come out in three weeks. And if there's a personality prob, I may have to use it sooner for the ones Cindy is bringing over Thursday. Depends on if the chicks will get along ok if I mix my newbies with the japs, or if she brings over her other babies, too.

Only other option is to steal one from the big birds that are outside, and it's so cold, they need something to keep the waterers thawed, if for nothing else. Even with the heat lamps the waterers were frosty today - had a thin film of ice on them, but water flowed ok, so not totally frozen hard.

Am I babbling? I am so tired, I ought to just go to bed. It is tiring having company
