Not sure how you would keep those things from freezing solid - not many options in putting heat to them.

meri

I was thinking of getting some heat tape, but my luck the bunnies or the chickens would decide to eat it! If I can get my ducks rounded up, they will probably go in the bunny room, so then I would have to fight them over it too! Idk, we have those hog panels, finally, and might be able to rig something up for the ducks. Not sure though, I'm thinkin they could get right through it?? Ugh!

Aw Cindy,
The babies are cute. My Grandson just sold his EE s.They were the parent birds to your chipmunk father rumpless blue and red tufted, the hens had beards and tails. All the babies from them have been with tails and bearded and muffed. Assorted colors.
The blr and copper chick is truly a fuzzy butt!
This Spring now that I have a coop opened up because EES are gone am going to work on the Bantam BLR wyandottes. there are two pair from two different breeders both out of the Ruth Bloth line. Cant tell you how beautiful these little birds are, everyone that comes to look at the birds say they have never seen any chickens soo pretty.

Well, I let the girls out this morning, because they were ticked at staying in yesterday and having a fit to go out. I figured I'd just keep an eye on them, to see how Mom's dogs react.

The nonsense ignored the chickens, and the dashound barked at them once, and when they didn't run, he ignored them.

Then the guineas saw the dogs.

Now the nonsense, again, ignored them. But the dashound did his "bark once" thing, and the guineas chased the dashound for about a good 100 feet

.

When mom finally took Red (the dashound) inside, the guineas were still stalking him

I guess the Goonies are good for something after all

I don't know if they thought he was a rat or what, but since he was smaller than them, they figured he was fair game.

poor dog didn't know what to think. If you've ever known a dashound, they generally think they are huge bad #sses --- until something goes after them. Started my day off with a giggle, anyway.

That chick that wasn't doing well died last night - I figured it wasn't long for this world. I think I finally have the incubator regulated properly for the woodheat then furnace switching. It's just a matter of closing or opening the door to the room at the right angle - bit of a pain, but worth it to keep me from having to tweek the knob. (that sounded mildly dirty <snicker> )

Well, I need something to eat, so gonna catch up on here a bit, then go find food.

Oh wow...bet you're excited to start your breeding project! I think any chicken with blue in is beautiful...Okay ALL chickens are beautiful(except those ugly NNs) but blue or black are my fav colors. I still need other colors for variety though and some of my fav babies are not blue, like my Little Man(BTB) and Bess(BR).
Sounds like I'm going to have a pretty EE chicken...Just love the chipmunk look, we've named it Alvin(may have to change that though if a girl) because the first time I took it out it poo'd on my hand and I was like EWWW!! And we were just talking about chipmunk names and thought of Theodore(because of the black around the eyes as glasses) so Layne yells ALVIN!!!! because I made a big deal about the poo. It always has to be the runny stinky one too, it can't be the firm one.

Can't wait to see pics of your BLRW bantams I bet they're awsome...Good luck with your project...

Have a great sunny day!!! Cindy

Sorry about your chickie Meri

and as I was reading the first post about it being weak my first thought was Poly-vi-sol. And was going to mention giving it a drop. That is one thing I failed to mention that I did with the Brilkie when I brought it in. Had to run to buy some but I think it had a lot to do with it initially perking up.

Have a beautiful day today with your mom, Cindy

I just had to let Meri know I got a big laugh

:lau when I had a picture of her mom's doxie releasing it was in big trouble when the chooks decided to go after him

I also found that Moyer's Hatchery in Quakerstown PA has a really good deal on Hovabotor Incubators, prices include shipping and handling

I will be ordering one soon, so I can give hatching some eggs

I am enjoying following this thread, and once I get the loft done for my pigeons (Will we ever have warm weather again?) I will get the coop and run built for the chickens.

Mrs. Lewis Rich---I didn't even know there were BLRW bantams until last night!! That is so cool that you have them! I want to be first on your list for eggs this spring! I was going to get some standard's eggs, but if they come in bantam, I'd rather have those (

Do you sell any of your marans eggs? I would love to get some Copper Blacks! They are so pretty!

Keep me in mind !!

That's funny about the guineas Meri! Mine just run away from Midget, and she is deffinitely smaller than they are. The only thing that fights back is that hen of dad's. They like to chase each other around the yard!

I could just imagine that poor dog! Imagine if you had a turkey, poor thing would probably need one of your pads you use for the brooder...it would never go back outside!!

Oh and so sorry about your baby. It is always aggravating when a perfectly normal chick dies. The ones I have had die are ones that I have helped hatch anyway.

Remember we have plenty of eggs, if you want to try again!

Plus all those chicks outside, the big ones in the tractor. Not sure what dad plans on doing with them, but he is NOT keeping them all!!

FrChuckW---What kind of hovabator is it, and how much?? I was thinking of getting one to use for my quail, since I have heard the sides are taller. Might need one for geese and turkeys as well, since the hovabator in general is bigger than my LG. Let me know!

Shelly you will be first on my list for BLRW eggs!(Bantam)
The Bantams in my opinion are better type and much more beautiful then the Standards , and that is hard to imagine because the Standards are striking. Everyone that sees them comments on how beautiful they are. We are keeping our Standards to have eggs to eat(NO ROO)
K

P.S. I think I have promised Cindy first refusal , so you will be second we will have to check with her and Layne!!!!!!

PPS Have any of you ever had a hen lay an egg that looks and feels like rubber, she has done that twice now, I just upped the calcium. What kind of Vitamins do any of ya use?
