I just did it on a chicken coop about 30 min ago...Don't hate me.

This looked to be an easier fix although a wee bit more costly for a coop/run for that guys Faverolle and I can just move the other hillbilly coop over and build this one in its place run and all under the leanto. I'll have to put wire and reinforcements on the bottom though so I can level it. Dunno I'll figure it out when I get ready to assemble it. It doesn't look too tall to fit under there.

ETA: Maybe I'll just make it mobile and move it around the yard

It's called Sniping and its a fine artform - Hubby is a master at it. He gets hate mail for it sometimes

I was told of a site that's called bidslammer that is designed for sniping on ebay! I hope it works!
fl.gif
The only problem with that is that I need to keep an eye on it and make sure the bid doesn't go over my max

I know I can find one, I just have to keep looking!

Ya know, I've seen your chicken coop, and I've seen both you and your husband - I have to ask ----- how did you both get UP there to "do it" ?

and Hate You? Shoot, I commend you --- wish I was that limber

There is Joy in Mudville !!!!

I walked into Speck's coop, carrying that big old blue bin, and he's on the perch - giving me the stink eye as if to say "no way are you catching me and putting me in that thing!!"

Then I opened the lid and he did the rooster dance right there on the perch (almost fell off, he was so excited
lau.gif
)

Specks is now the proud husband of three hens - a RIR, a Cornish Mix (according to Shelley's dad), and something else that is big but no idea what she is. She is white with black head and tail - but has the feathering on her outside leg (not heavy feathering, lightly, though).

If he got the hens at Day & Day, I know they order from Mt. Healthy, so I can maybe find her on their website.

I also am happy mama of four teensy weensy button quail babies.
lau.gif
they got into the tank and were stumped by the fact that they could see out but they couldn't get out. They kept tapping at the glass and trying to hop through it. They look so tiny in that big tank.

I'll get pics later - gonna go check Mt Healthy to see if I can figure otu what that other hen is.

ETA - the mystery hen is a Light Brahma - the white one could be the cornish cross, or it could be a white plymouth rock - the white roos had big chests, so perhaps she is a Cornish Cross hen.
Either way, Speckles is One Happy Rooster.

I had thought those hens were light brahmas, but I never noticed any leg feathers! And I wouldn't go by what dad says, he may be right, but all the chicks were in a bin at Day&Day, he just picked out the ones he wanted! I was just guessing on the breeds, I figured the hens were columbians since they didn't have feathered legs, but if they do then it would be a brahma. That would explain why one of the chicks we've hatched looks like a dark brahma, probably mixed with SLW. Well, I know what two of his breeds are for sure anyway!

Mt. Healthy doesn't offer any black and whites except the brahmas - and only two white chickens. The white chickens have to be either cornish cross or white plymouth rock - and considering that the roos aren't dead from old age and fat, I'm guessing white rocks. Cornish cross chickens usually don't do well beyond their butchering age (a couple of months).

If he pulled them out of the bin, I'm guessing white rocks, because I think the cornish you have to special order from Day & Day, I doubt they put those right into the bins with the laying chickens. Next time I'm in Day & Day I'll ask them.

The brahma hens your dad has don't have much feathering on their legs, but they do have a tiny bit. Just enough to say they got it
lau.gif
.

I'll be curious to see how the babies from this mix turn out.

Those hens don't know what to do with all that clean bedding and all that room to move around
lau.gif
Boy are they muddy!! If it were summer I'd clean them off, but I figure they'll dry out sooner or later and it'll flake off.

They're all sort of following Specks everywhere, and I just threw them some old salad mix, and Specks went for it, clucking to them to come on, and they just looked at him
gig.gif
The one chicken got daring, but I think they were just nervous because I was in there, too. Once I left I heard Specks get louder with the the "come and get it" clucking.

After I put them all in there, I put fresh hay in the nesting boxes (it was due for the laying coop, too, so I just hit everyone with some).
I'll have them so spoiled within a week or two, they'll be looking for me to walk in the door

Now they just need some names. I'll try to get pics tomorrow of the happy little group.

Maybe you should give them a bath and keep them in your sewing room for a few days? I bet hubby would LOVE that!

I saw an auction on eBay that has pure columbian rock eggs. It might be over by now, but just thought I'd let you know.

I was griping as I was stacking the dishes to wash, and for once dad heard me. I repeated what I had been mumbling, that I wish somebody besides me would wash dishes once in a while. His response was 'well I don't usually dirty any'. ????? What the @#$!??? Just because I'm the one who does the cooking doesn't mean I'm the one who dirties them!! He eats too, usually twice as much as me and Cris combined!! What a jerk!! I bet he's thinking since I'm not working that I have all the time in the world to do house-type things. Well, I'm sorry to tell him that he doesn't work either, and usually he just sits or lays on his couch all day. I have school, and animals, and a kid to take care of. Plus I have to feed him and us, he never even bothers to cook. And the few times he does he makes it so nasty with tons of salt or pepper that I will barely (if at all) eat it, and Cris won't even touch it! AGH!!!! Sorry, just needed to vent a bit....

Edit because the filter didn't like my abbreviations and 'what???' was not strong enough!

I was thinking of ebay if I can't find any Delaware eggs in the spring on BYC, I know one person on there offers them. Columbian Rocks are my second choice. Thanks for keeping an eye out, though - I been cruising ebay hatching eggs, too - just think I ought to wait to buy shipped eggs til spring.

I'm lucky, Hubby washes my dishes for me. (ya probably don't want to hear that, eh?
lau.gif
) I absolutely hate to wash dishes, so he does it.

Now, if he'd hook up my nearly brand new dishwasher for me this winter, I'll do dishes again
lau.gif
. We moved it down here, but this house hasn't got dishwasher hookups (we had a power outlet installed for one) so it has no cupboard cutout for it to fit into. We have to cut the lower cupboards apart to make a hole for it.

I do dishes every now and then, if he looks like he's feeling put upon, or if he's busy with other stuff.

I am not keeping any BIG chickens in the hatching room
lau.gif
hubby would have ten kinds of fits. It's supposed to warm up again this week, maybe I can at least catch them and try to brush some of it off. If nothing else, I'll wait til they get used to the place and turn them out on a rainy day to free range for awhile
lau.gif
that'll wash them off.

he has one older brother - who is married - sorry
big_smile.png

I doubt his brother washes dishes, though - he doesn't seem like the type. However, he probably never gets the chance, his wife is a bit of a Suzy Homemaker, she'd probably be shocked to think of a man washing her dishes
lau.gif
.

Me, I take all the housework help I can get

eta - his brother couldn't build a chicken coop to shelter himself - the guy is worthless with tools. Fun guy, very sweet, likes to hunt and fish, but not a builder. I saw his toolbox once - it had a wrench and a hammer - the wrench hadn't been used much, but the hammer was very well worn

Update on the newbies...
First Splat is running from the other guys(might be his saving grace in the end though) only one he fought back with was the Male Millie, and Raoul hasn't noticed him for some reason...And I think Anna has the hots for him, she keeps looking in on him and checking him out while he's out in the pen.

I think Raoul has mellowed a lot since the attack, he hasn't really picked on anyone unless they start it and he has been breaking up Little Man and Terminators morning spats.

The male red Cochin had to go back in the cage, Little Man kept starting fights with him and when Raoul came over to break them up Red would jump on Raoul...Didn't make Raoul a happy roo. So Red had two roos on him, ended up with a bloody comb so back in the cage he went to heal up some. And since he went back in, the white girl wanted in too. Oh yeah, Anna gave Red a tail kicken to because he flirted with her. Poor guy...Looks like I may have to give my Cochins their own run somewhere back there...Maybe they can have the front one after the ducks pen is finished.
