Kentucky people

Thanks for the kudos on my brooder, I feel better now

BC hasn't torn up the puppy pad all day - she likes having the hay in there to scratch in instead of the pad

I heard from somewhere that if the chicks eat hay they can get impacted crop - not sure if that is paranoia or if it is common, so I'll throw in some grit for BC and the Jap - I doubt the babies are eating much hay, even though they are playing tug o war with it.

Does it have feathered legs, could be a darker Millie? Some of them start with a good deep mahogany, I just didn't think mine would because they are more the buff color. Only bantam roos I had at that time were BTB Jap, BTB Dutch, Blue Silkie, and White Cochin bantam...Mother maybe could have been the Partridge Cochin(she just start laying some time recently). Or it could be a new Large fowl layer, maybe Nutmeg the Buckeye....

Give it a couple of days to adjust and then get it out and check it over real good.
And take some pics for us!!!

I'm waiting...

I didn't get a good look at its whole body, it just had its head peeking out by mama. And when we moved her and the chicks to the dog cage it was dark, and we were moving fast, so I didn't get a good look at any of them then, except for the buff ones, to see if they had feathered legs. Of course they did! So cute!

ETA:but all 4 of the bantam eggs looked like they were from the same hen, or similar anyway, so it could be. I'll get a better look tomorrow, or whenever she comes off the nest with them. There was one pip yesterday, and they all hatched today, so she might wait a day or so to bring them out.

I'm gonna have enough on my hands with these ducks. I'm trying to find a used dog kennel on some of the sales and freebies sites for the ducks, hopefully 10x10x6 or 8x10x6. Can't afford to buy one new they are so expensive. Course if I don't find one I could always buy a panel or two a month til I get enough for a pen.

I know they sell grit for babies at TSC, if they don't have it at Day&Day. Or you could probably use parakeet grit too.

Another KY chick near Morehead State University or home of Keith Whitley. Anyone know where in the world that is? Anyway, I have several breeds including my newest black coppers. Really want some seramas, can anybody help me out or direct me to a breeder? Thanks

Don't buy grit unless you have to... I have a bag of it. been throwing some out on the ground trying to get it dwindled down some. just go out and grab up some dirt that has some gravel in it and put it in the cage.

OMG BC is getting huge!!

I have some parakeet grit, so will probably use that.

yeah, she is, I think she can probably come home in another week, and go out into the coop with the others, if ya want to take her then. She still likes the light, but I don't think she really needs it. The jap baby still needs the light, I had it off them earlier, and the poor little jap was trying to curl all in on herself - she got cold.

Welcome

When I was looking at places to buy a few years ago, I was looking over in eastern KY, and the funniest thing I ever saw was that Morehead had a Gay Bed and Breakfast called the Brownwood Inn - now that's funny, and I don't care who ya are. (if I may steal Larry the Cable Guy's expressions

)

(btw, I'm not homophobic, and my gay nephew fell on the floor laughing his butt off when I told him about it.)

I just looked it up (in case anyone didn't believe me

- apparently it is under new management, so the bisexual couple who owned it must have sold out.

There are a couple of folks in Lexington that breeds Seramas. There is a couple of Serama groups on Yahoo you can join and then ask if anyone is selling anything...You may be able to get some of their culls if you just want some for pets. And the Lex folks are members of the groups too.

Welcome to BYC if I hadn't welcomed you yet!!!!!!!
